Is It Just Me?

Post by Sheriff Buford » Mon Sep 07, 2015 4:48 am

Me and the wife took care of 3 grandkids a week ago, while my one of my daughters' had her 4th child - total of 12 grandkids from 3 daughters... Anyway, Me and the wife picked up a cold. The wife has it worse than me, but I broke out the humidifier for comfort for my sore throat. My bipap humidifier has never been used, and still had the shipping plastic on it. I set the humidifier on auto at the lowest setting. I could not tell much difference the next day, but the water level usage dropped about a quarter of a tub. The next night, I maxed-out the temperature to 86 degrees, and probably used a half a tub of water.

I can feel the air being a little warmer and I do get some relief from the dry mouth I get from not using the humidifier, but is this it?? It's been probably 3 or 4 years since I used the humidifier, but I remember wet... and a bunch of moisture. Do most of you folks operate in the manual mode or in the automatic mode? What gives?

I use the auto mode on my A10 auto. There are days where I only use it for five hours and the tank is near empty and like last night, where I used it for almost hours and yet only a third was used.

It really depends on what the humidity is in your area. Right now it's been extremely humid where I live, versus before where it was dry as a bone.

I use it set on automatic though I have tried playing around with various manual settings.
With it set to auto the humidity delivered is consistent at 80% on my S9 and I can use cooler air in the summer and warmer air in the winter and still be getting the same humidity.
I don't have to use more warmth to get the moisture my nose likes unless I want to which is nice in the summer.

Like Pugsy says, Auto. It keeps a constant level of 80% RH without you having to chase the settings all over the map. Side benefit is no problem with rainout.

I've tried it without humidification and the schnoz and sinuses get painfully dried out.

Ok... for once... it's not me... thanks for the replies. Dang thing works better than I thought! I'll use the humidifier until the distilled water jug runs out... then I'll decide if I'll continue to use the humidifier or not. I woke up with extremely dry mouth and a sore throat and that was no fun. For now, I think I'll continue to use it.

Ok, so this thread is mostly done, but I have to brag about my 'pretty in pink' S9 auto with heated hose. It handles humidification so well I never have to think about it. I LOVE this machine. And she's pretty

Chunkyfrog, you got my giggles going when you talked about taping your yap. I wondered if your 'little' froggie eyes would bulge.
