Do I need a new machine?

Post by wacyone » Sun Sep 06, 2015 12:36 pm

I have a Respironics BiPAP AutoSV that I started using in August of 2009. It has worked wonders so far but I was about to turn over 20,000 hours 2 days ago but it is stuck on 19,999. Also it has me going to bed like 6:00 pm (instead of 10:00 pm) at night so I am thinking the electronics are going south. Any input would be nice. If I can talk the DME into a new machine would this be the machine? PR System One REMStar 60 Series BiPAP autoSV Advanced

The DME? Do you have insurance (who should be the ones to talk to and who would normally approve the purchase)? Most insce co's replace machines after 5 yrs. Do you have a prescription (if so, most are considered to be for life and should be transferable to any DME, but you need to have the thing to get it done). Do you have a doctor, did you have a sleep study, anything since then, software that tells you how you're doing every night and whether or not you're (still) doing well?

Yep, that would be model 960 and the latest in ASV type of machines from Respironics.
The newest/latest version of what you are using now.

A difference between your machine and the current ones is that the max pressure is now 25 cmH2O down from the max on your machine of 30 cmH2O. When you get your new machine, it might be wise to check with ACCBio for an estimate of the cost to bring your current machine up to snuff and keep it as a backup machine.

Their web page is http://acbio.com/.

The PRS1 machine will record a lot more data than your old Legacy REMStar ASV machine.

The trick won't be the DME, it will be the insurance company. They may or may not approve, or may want another sleep study.

It would be nice to have a newer machine, plus the comfort of having a backup machine.

Yes, seems that old dog stopped barkin'. What kind of insurance do you have? You'll probably need a new prescription. Make sure you tell the doctor what you want and he writes it down on the prescription.

Talked with the DME today and said it sounds like the electronics are going bad. Told me to go see my Dr. face to face, tell him your machine is failing and write a script for a new PR System one Bipap AutoSV advanced 960. I have an appointment for September 23. I am on medicare with BCBS supplement so should be no problems. Thanks everybody for your help.

You might consider the ResMed machines as well.

Anyone got opinions on ResMed vs. PRS1 ASV machines?

There is also the new Respironics Dreamstation machines. Personally, I'd be a bit scared of a brand new model. There may also be a new Respironics "Dorma" series that should definitely be avoided. The Dorma machines seem to have very limited data.
