Mask fix

Post by carbonman » Sat Sep 05, 2015 8:28 pm

I have been using the UltraMirage ffm since I gave up on the Optilife and gluing.
Good choice, never looked back.
The only problem is the lower receiver for the head gear clip breaks.

Not sure if others have this problem, or I'm just tough on masks.
I have tried many ways to fix these breaks and none have every worked.
At $82 a pop to replace the frame, I'm not a happy camper....
but chalk it up to the cost of good therapy.

Couple of days ago I stumbled across this.
http://notaglue.com/
I got it from Amazon, so if it didn't work, can send it back.

The top of the receiver breaks in two places.
The back is very difficult to get to.
The glue applicator has a needle point. It was very easy to get the glue into the break in the back.

Like the instructions say, you can build up the glue in layers.
I glued the back w/one layer. The front part I built up w/3 layers.

It was very easy and literally took 10min to do this.
No waiting 24hrs for it to cure.
There are going to be many uses for this.
Hope this helps.
I'll see you on the road.

Thank you for this!

I also use(d) the UM FFM for a long time but went broke trying to deal with breaks - the tiny struts in the round connector/valve of the hose to the elbow, the forehead adjuster piece, etc. etc. A couple of yrs ago I ordered glue for polycarbonate (which the plastic supposedly is) but while it attached pieces, the bond didn't hold well, or else adjoining parts broke... the mask is not well designed, so began using another (one of 2 I acquired some place) type, but would like to go back to the UM. Could you let me know how things work out with yours - I bookmarked the link you posted because I still have lots of frames, parts, etc. waiting for something like Bondic. Thanks very much!

Yep! I've had both of them break on my original 10-year-old mask......but not at the same time.
What I did was to use the "circles" cut out of the sides of a gallon milk jug (they're flat and that plastic glues well) and rough-cut some pieces to cover the "receiver" / "clip-holder", then I glued them in place with Krazy glue and refined the shape with an X-ACTO knife (although some other sharp knife should work, too). Actually, I've use two layers of the milk jug plastic to get a thicker layer to cover it. I just glue one on top of the other.

On a side note........
I found years ago that particular plastic material in milk jugs also works well for bedding the fore-ends of rifle stocks. If they're wood, it helps resist warping and it's like a cheap, easy way of "glass-bedding" the barrels. You just cut them in small rectangles and use as many layers as you need to get the proper tension with the stock fore-end/barrel fit (gluing one on top of the other). Some people free-float their barrels, but for some rifles, that doesn't necessarily help the accuracy. This method has for me.

Good tip, Carbonman, I could use a 'not' glue applicator like that all around the house, not to mention, on some bike parts. To other forum members, watch the videos on the website to see what this stuff can do.

Thanks also to Den for the milk jug trick... haven't tried that one yet

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
