Is there a thin full face mask?
Is there a thin full face mask?
My biggest problem so far is my mask pushing against the mattress and causing a leak.I'm thinking a mask that is a bit thinner might help this issue. I sleep on my side but because of back pain most nights I tend to roll over a bit more towards my stomach. I also can't use a very thick pillow because it makes the back pain worse. Thanks for any advice!

This mask conforms to your face:

Cloth masks are super lightweight, but a challenge to adjust properly.
Compare it to learning how to swim. Awesome if you can master it.

By "thinner," do you mean narrower width-wise? Since any FFM has to cover the mouth, I'm doubting there's one that's narrow enough to suit your needs. Many of us using a FFM simple hang our mask over the edge of the pillow when side-sleeping so there's no interference with the mask seal. Otherwise, there are special CPAP bed pillows made with cutouts on the sides to accommodate a mask (or you could carefully cut a pillow of your own to do the same).itsjustme wrote:My biggest problem so far is my mask pushing against the mattress and causing a leak.I'm thinking a mask that is a bit thinner might help this issue. If you actually mean "thinner" as in the cushion itself, the new Respironics Amara View has the thinnest silicone of any FFM I've tried.
One thing you need to be aware of is not letting the vent holes on the mask get compromised by anything covering them (pillow, blankets, mattress). The vented air carries expelled CO2 with it, and it's important that the vent holes be fully functional all the time.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

A buckwheat hull pillow holds the shape you give it, and many use one with cpap.

Here's a good buckwheat hull pillow, I've got one:

You can make it as thin or as thick as you want just using your hands.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I use this too and highly recommend it. It comes with extra filling that you remove until you get the fill level that works best for you, and once in bed you can work it into a shape that will support your neck and leave space for your mask. It doesn't "fight back" the way memory foam does.Sir NoddinOff wrote:Here's a good buckwheat hull pillow, I've got one:

Wow I'm going to order this pillow. there are a variety of models for $25.00 on the online market; is the one at Pur sleep preferable? Happy to pay a bit more for a better product.

Re: Is there a thin full face mask?
Well I ordered this pillow from pur sleep. I use a memory foam pillow and like it well enough, but it's hot. Plus, I have wee bit of worry about it's materials, chemical-wise. In any case, I hope this is a winner. I'll give my review later on.

Re: Is there a thin full face mask?
Thanks chunkyfrog, that mask looks interesting. SirNoddinOff, I am going to order the buckwheat pillow and give it a try. I found a contour pillow at wally mart that helps some. And bleeping beauty I didn't exactly use the right words there, I actually meant less distance between my face and the point where the hose connects. But I am beginning to get used to this one so I dont know if I should make a change and have a different one to get used to. Thanks again to everybody for your help and advice, I really do appreciate it.

Re: Is there a thin full face mask?
I have to say that the man they used as the model in the picture of the cpap pillow looks like the man on the pillow I bought from Amazon. It was so long ago. However, that pillow was way too high for me in the neck area. Very uncomfortable. I was able to return it for a refund. Neck height of pillow is something to think about.
