Recommendations for Devices to Prevent Back Sleeping?
I've had some tennis balls sewn into some t-shirts, but they are making it difficult to sleep due to the way it was done, sometimes they hang just far enough to the side that I can feel them starting to wedge between the bed and me. I just need to have them redone and adjusted to solve it, but that could take several days, so in the meantime I'm looking for a different solution. Amazon offers quite a few options, has anyone purchased something they are happy with?

Please note, foam wedges won't work for me, I need something attached to me.
Thanks

You could try a fanny pack (or a small backpack) filled with lumpy items (like the tennis balls). The items on Amazon seem a reasonable choice, too.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.

That's an interesting idea, I actually have a fanny pack somewhere that I forgot I owned, I'll try it when I get home.BleepingBeauty wrote:You could try a fanny pack (or a small backpack) filled with lumpy items (like the tennis balls). The items on Amazon seem a reasonable choice, too.
Still, if anyone has any other product they've ordered that have worked particularly well, please let me know. I wouldn't mind trying a few different options.

Gramps and I both went that route. Then we tried soft cervical collars. They work as well as sidesleeping and you can change positions for comfort without worry. I now sleep mostly on my back.Heart Jumping wrote:Prevent Back Sleeping
It's a cheap trial to see if it is effective and comfortable for yourself - example -> http://www.amazon.com/Carex-Health-Bran ... cal+collar

Piercings, not really a serious suggestion, but if I were desperate enough . . . who knows?

Re: Recommendations for Devices to Prevent Back Sleeping?
Thanks for the suggestions (except for piercings ), it looks like the fanny pack may do the trick, I think I'm going to find one with an elastic belt for added comfort. If that doesn't work I may try the collar, but as long as the fanny pack doesn't bother me I'm more confident that staying off my back will make sure it doesn't happen.

I'm still trying to figure out the piercings thing myself, and all I've gotten is having a bunch of loops inserted along one side and hang yourself from the ceiling... something like this, only on your side:Heart Jumping wrote:Thanks for the suggestions (except for piercings ),

Re: Recommendations for Devices to Prevent Back Sleeping?
Everyone may be different, but in my sleep study my AHI was the same on back or sides - 80. If you had a sleep study, you might want to check yours for similar data.
Because my AHI was the same on back as sides, I do not avoid back sleeping and, in fact, usually start out the night on my back as I find it very relaxing that way.
I guess some people have worse AHI when on their back, but shouldn't the cpap be able to compensate for that?

Re: Recommendations for Devices to Prevent Back Sleeping?
I'm waiting to get into a sleep study or may do a home sleep study. In the meantime I've self-diagnosed and both from using an oximeter as well as long standing symptoms, it appears to only/mainly happen on my back, so I believe I may have positional sleep apnea, or at a minimum it's worse on my back.yaconsult wrote:Everyone may be different, but in my sleep study my AHI was the same on back on sides - 80. Once I get a CPAP machine hopefully I won't have to worry about it.
