Clapping sound

Post by Arnebirger » Thu Jul 23, 2015 1:27 am

Hi.
My son, 12y., is sleeping with Bipap.

Sometimes his mask, a Mirage Quattro X-Small, is making a claping sound.
Sometimes 2-5 claps in a row, and then again af few minutes later. This can go on all night. It is not every night, and there don't seem to be a system in the claping.
My son is not awakend by this, but it is pretty high sound, and effecting the rest of the Family.
We have tried many Things, turning him around, new mask, new machine, loosing/tighten mask. but nothing helps.

Can anybody in here help? Or has anyone experienced the same?
At the hospital they dont know what to do about it, and have not heared of it before.

I don't think I have heard anything as loud as this seems to be. I know that in the hose is a "flapper" valve to keep exhale air from going into the supply tube. I don't remember if it's at the mask end or the source end, but by breathing out before the system has come up to my pressure it will make a "snapping" sound. That's the only thing I can think of that makes any noise. I do know that if you look into the end of the hose you can see it. I can only assume that all the different hoses have it.
Sleeping MUCH better now

Do you use any software to see how well things go ok overnight? You could download (for free) SleepyHead - good for PCs + Macs - and then post results on Imgur.com... and leave a link on this thread to them. We can then tell you if there is an indication that something is wrong or not.

You could also try recording the noise and then playing it for a technician to hear.

I think it's the "flapper" on the hose connector. It's the connector that on one end connects to the hose and the other end connects to the mask. As stated, it opens to let air into the mask then closes when you exhale. I'm thinking that flapper is getting noisy.
