Philips moving into home testing

Post by JDS74 » Sat Jul 18, 2015 11:13 am

Just found this article about Philips-Respironics moving into home sleep apnea testing.

Philips Respironics new home testing

Looks as if they are responding to the pressure to do home studies rather than in-lab studies.

Appears to be simple diagnostic testing.

Any idea what happens thereafter?

I would assume that would be up to the doctor that ordered the home sleep study based on the results.
No different than it is now with the other various home studies.

It might move the process along faster.
--unless the suppliers of the equipment colluded with the sleep labs,
(Their current best customers)
and refused to provide enough units for timely diagnostic use.
But, of course, that would NEVER HAPPEN.

I wonder if it monitors heart, brain waves, blood oxygen levels, leg movement, record video of the person sleeping, applies oxygen if necessary, and those things the human in the sleep lab does. Then again, given how far off my prescription seems to have been from my last in lab sleep study. . . .

It is a "Home" sleep test. No video, and no way to apply O2... the rest is possible.

Home testing catches a lot of garden variety OSA and allows it to be treated without expensive in lab sleep tests. Home tests do NOT rule out anything, if they are negative an in lab sleep test is required. If there are any problems with the cpap therapy after an in home test then an in lab sleep test should also be done.

Or at least that is the way it should work......
