Re: Excessive night urination
Granny: It's called a check list... you talk to your doctor and he goes thru various procedures to see what the ailment is. I did NOT recommend Flowmax but did say to get several things checked out... just like someone else suggested a check for diabetes. As you should well know, these replies are for ALL the forum readers (males mostly in this case). Yes, I did note that the OP was reasonably young, however men of any age can have prostrate problems. Besides, other people may find this info useful, so I don't think mine was a misguided reply.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Fine for you, Sir. But I will continue to disagree.
And it's spelled "Flomax".
And he doesn't need it.
But I must say you frequently make very good contributions here.

I agree with the other posters. It's probably one of the biggest, and most surprising, changes CPAP made. Like the OP I was getting up 4-5 times per night. Now I generally can sleep at least 6 or 7 hours before going, and then it isn't that I have to go that bad.

Now that I've gotten older, I rarely get up to go.

+1 - Of course you talk to your doctor first. My neighbor's grandson (age 22) has prostate problems, happily not serious at this time, but he sees his doctor once a year to be sure.Sir NoddinOff wrote:Granny: It's called a check list... you talk to your doctor and he goes thru various procedures to see what the ailment is. Re: Excessive night urination
Of course we all hope CPAP makes alpha752's problems go away and Granny is certainly right that apnea can often be a sole contributing factor. However, it wasn't in my case. Anyway, I got distracted by all the interesting back and forth and therefore forgot two additional important ideas I was trying to get across about frequent urination, especially of the night-time variety. This is also for any other readers/sufferers who find CPAP doesn't eliminate the problem over the long run. Females can get bladder problems too, so the gals may want to pay attention.
In my thirties, I was the one who always asked for extra Szechwan peppers when others were picking them out of their servings of Chinese food. The hotter the better! Anyway, I was about alpha752's age when I first started noticing problems with frequent urination - my doctor and I eventually linked it to my love of chile peppers and spicy food, finding that spicy peppery food irritated my bladder and possibly my prostrate (I can't be sure of the prostate part, however, since my various doctors disagreed on the issue). I loved peppers then and still do, but for me it was necessary to cut out the peppery hot food or at least cut way way back with only an occasional spicy meal for a treat. That single change got me by for many years without surgical intervention or Flomax... the result was that I typically pee'd once a night, which is quite normal. With advanced age my prostate grew to borderline slze (yep, they went in with an endoscope) and as a result I now take Flomax. As a result of not eating chile peppers, plus some diet restrictions and Flomax, I usually don't get up to pee at all at night. The best part is I still haven't had to resort prostate TURP surgery or laser treatment (thank God).
Sorry to be so long winded on a topic that's so familiar to me but here's my last suggestion. It's become apparent to me over the years that drinking alcohol late in the evening can make me pee too much too, plus it disturbs my overall sleep. However, that's an easy fix: First, I don't drink in excess during the day and secondly, I just don't drink alcohol after 6pm (I go to bed fairly early between 10-11pm on a typical night). I also don't eat after 7:30pm for other reasons, but that's another story for another time.

Thanks deadlysleep, but no sympathy required... I got more than my fair share in the nearly 40 years I overdid itDeadlySleep wrote:My sympathies.Sir NoddinOff wrote:I don't drink in excess

Re: Excessive night urination
I find SirNoddinoff's advise is usually very helpful and don't mind hearing that other issues may or may not be involved in the original question. Ah yes, I've had yet another good night of sleep thanks to my cpap machine.

If his advice is so important, he should have initiated a separate thread. Needlessly scaring a 34-year old whose night peeing is eliminated by CPAP is not nice.MagsterMile wrote:I find SirNoddinoff's advise is usually very helpful
I agree with the post that said if the problem is only at night, that is a sure sign that it is sleep apnea.
