sore heels

Post by jim22 » Mon Jul 13, 2015 7:52 pm

Here's a topic I haven't seen here yet. I've been on cpap for 15 months, and sleep frequently on my back. Over the last few weeks, my heels have been feeling numb and kind of hot when I lie down on my back. I am concerned ilthat I may be developing bed sores. Great. Can anyone recommend a mattress type or pad that might solve this before it gets worse? Thanks.

Stop back sleeping - it provokes more apneas and your back may be doing things you don't need. A better mouse trap (mattress, etc.) could be in order, but may only be a stop gap. You need to talk to your doctor though, and not imagine you're getting bed sores of all things (unless you're there all day long too), back problems are far more likely... as would be blood sugar (when's the last time you had it checked?).

What you describe does not sound like pressure sores (aka bed sores) to me. Pressure sores are caused by pressure being applied to any area of skin for extended periods off time. The skin turns red, blisters and then breaks down. What you describe, especially the numbness, sounds like a nerve problem. You should see your doctor as soon as possible. In the meantime if you can not sleep on your side (like I cannot) try putting a small pillow under your legs to lift the heels off the mattress.

Also have A1C test, and heart checked out, and fluid retention. Also for some relief after dr. Diabetic socks use also in bed and gel inserts for shoes.

But by all means see the doctor soon. Jim
