I blame it all on global warming.

If Al Gore, had not invented the internet, crowd funding would have to rip off the public, old school, with phone dialers. Jim

Update: Well, the campaign is over and $928,778 was raised from 9,338 people. I wish all those hopeful funders the best of luck, but my advice to them would be to either get or keep using a good auto cpap machine until your Airings arrive in the mail and are successfully able to treat your sleep apnea!
Estimated delivery is not until July 2017 so I hope the people who paid for Airings will get treatment in the meantime as sleep apnea can take a big toll from your body and your mind over the course of another two years.
The current generation of cpap machines and masks and pillows work very well. Do NOT wait for an Airing to start or continue your cpap journey.

+1000
Two years is a long time to go without oxygenated sleep.
Plenty of time to get diabetes, A-Fib, obesity, or die.
Hope for the best, but don't die holding your breath.

While Greece is having money problems, some banked nearly one million dollars in Nigeria. I wonder where that money came from? Jimchunkyfrog wrote:+1000

Re: Airing raised $928,778 from 9,338 people - it's done
Is there any real info among the blather in this thread?
My take from reading Airing's FAQ and my experience:
- good idea, very helpful if it works (including for example using it on an airline flight)
- takes digging through their FAQ and looking at their photos to understand it (repetition and contradictions in those documents, which is not a good sign)
- retention method seems to be nostril discs rather than adhesive
- I doubt the price is achievable
- I don't see that they have tested fabrication and function of the enabling technology, that's critical, perhaps that's what they wanted the money for
No indication it is a scam, inventor and boss seems to have experience. Certainly many IndieGoGo type efforts are poorly thought out then money is spent unwisely.

All remains to be seen. They didn't get any of my money {{{WHAT money?}}}

I know, old thread.
Just look at the issues people have when they want to take a regular machine camping and battery life for a single night. How could this new thing move enough air with a self contained battery in that size? That alone is impossible. Moving air is work, work takes power, power requires battery capacity-Period.

One indication that it is a scam is that it is not possible to generate the needed volume of air flow with a couple of tiny piezoelectric fans. If it were possible, in order for the tiny battery to last eight hours it would require a totally unbelievable efficiency factor.
If you think I am wrong that is fine but I guarantee that in a couple of years the money will be gone and no product will be there.

Re: Airing raised $928,778 from 9,338 people - it's done
There are so many issues just with the basic physics of getting such a device to work that I don't expect any of the funders to ever get anything. At least most of them will only have wasted between $70 and $270.
The funny thing is, the money kept coming in after the end of the campaign! While it was $928.778 with no time left when I made the original post, today it is $999,481 - another cool $70,000!!! Hmmm, I should start working on crowdfunding ideas! If people are so desperate to get rid of all that money... There seems to be an enormous market of people who should be on cpap are aren't.
I just feel sad when I read comments like this one in the campaign comments:

Just more fuel to add to the fire of, XPAP Non-users in DeNile. Never the less I put in for a couple of those motors and that battery to power them, I want to build a over the road semi tractor with them, maybe get a second set to run a generator to power my house. Jim

People, some of you have not studied Airing's FAQs, poorly written as they are.
There are many micro "blowers" in the design, likely based on electro-static technology fabricated by laminating technology (rolls of sheet with printing of substances and perhaps laser cutting of holes), so low cost in mass production.
They say the battery is zinc-air technology, that gives high energy density. It is used in many hearing aids, in a full-featured recent design like the Phonak Audeo V life is about 10 days with the aids off during sleep hours. Airing uses much more power so expect only one night's life or about 1/20th of the hearing aids. (It is unlikely they'll develop rechargeable in this decade, hearing aid manufacturers may fund such battery technology (the limit in both uses discussed here is battery volume for desired device compactness).)
Note that retention appears to be by discs inside your nostrils, that may be irritating (they contradict themselves on shape of pillows/prongs, perhaps they are showing what they've tried).
I am skeptical because of the design is very ambitious thus takes a great deal of money and time, contradictions in their informational material, and over-hyping.

Re: Airing raised $928,778 from 9,338 people - it's done
I've been away from this group for a few years as I'd given up (tried for 2 years with numerous modifications and tried everything I could to make cpap work)
ever making cpap possible for me despite my extreme desire to make it happen. I'm back seeking more in case there is something "new".
When I saw the Airing indegogo campaign it was sent to me by a friend who knew how hard I tried. I read the info (no,, didn't scientifically study it) I saw the flaws esp in the battery aspect, so I thought, "well, good luck to this idea" and simply created a Google News Alert on it so I would be informed if somehow something New might happen one day.
I come here and read so many comments on this subject by folks who apparently are sleeping so well that they have blazed passed all sense of humility, and those of us who have not been lucky or determined enough, to make cpap work, are seen as fools and idiots who might have an interest.
I love this group and the manner in which some wish to share ideas and support others who are badly in need of sleep, but gosh, some of you are heartless,,
It takes all kinds to make a world, and this site is of course no exception, but please, those of you who are bright and sleeping well due to cpap, try not to be so arrogant and shaming. It goes against the values of support, when you bash another.
I hope this thing gets built, but I'm not counting on it. In the meantime, I hope to glean some NEW info or treasures that may reside here, or even a kind individual who takes the time to post some encouragement or idea. Let's En-courage, not Dis-courage

Customization and support keeps me trying 10 years, not there yet.

I feel that it is my responsibility to try to help prevent more innocents from being harmed by charlatans.
There is no arrogance here. I feel blessed, and earnestly want this blessing for others.
I will be watching for some indication of "something better", but I regularly check Medgadget,
--As I feel they are trustworthy--by virtue of being impartial.
