Heated hose changes settings

Post by SerenaK » Sun Jun 21, 2015 8:18 am

I'm fairly new to the CPAP machine and am having some issues with the heated hose. I have the Respironics System One with the heated humidifier and the heated hose. My problem is that I set the temperature of the hose when I go to bed and when I wake up in them morning the setting has changed. Last night when I went to bed I set the temperature on 3 for the hose setting and when I woke up this morning it had changed to 1. The colder air coming through the hose is what wakes me up much earlier than I'm ready to be up. Anyone have any information on why this is happening? Does the humidifier temperature and hose temperature have to match?

No, they don't have to match and it shouldn't be changing during the night unless maybe something is accidentally turning the knob or something to change the temperature.
Is this happening every night or just some nights? Pets? Kids? Accidentally bumping the knob in the middle of the night? I have done that myself.

Now if the setting is RX'd into the SD card it could change but that change would be immediate and it wouldn't stay at 3 for hours to change in the middle of the night.

Something is turning the knob if you go to bed and go to sleep with it set at 3 and you wake up and it is showing 1.

It isn't the knob being changed - that controls the humidity level. The temperature for the hose is set under the settings section. I do have pets, but they wouldn't be able to go into settings and select the hose temperature setting and change it. I've even put a bell over the knob to see if by chance I was changing it in my sleep thinking the bell would wake me up. The bell hasn't been moved. I'm thinking I have a defective machine but wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong.

It's the humidity level...1, 2 or 3 that is set in the clinical setup menu when the heated hose is connected.
All the knob does is change the hose air temperature which can be either set in the setup menu or on the fly just with the knob.

So if you have a heated hose attached...that knob only sets the air temp unless you are in the clinical setup menu area which you are correct...can't be accidentally accessed.

I have a PR S1 machine with the heated hose so I know first hand how it should work.

Where are you seeing the change? On the knob selection on top of the blower or in the setup menu?
What are the exact settings for humidity and temperature in the setup menu when you go to bed and when you wake up?

With the heated hose attached and I assume working properly so that the machine recognizes it....the only way to change humidity delivery is in the setup menu...settings 1 thru 3 and air temp settings 1 thru 5 can be managed either in the setup menu or on the top of the machine providing the DME hasn't locked it (that's easily fixed though).

Just spoke with the respiratory therapist and the thinks that the machine has been set at a certain temperature for both the hose and the humidifier. And the reason I don't notice when it changes is that it waits until the machine calls out on the model to get updates and download data to pick up the pre-programmed settings and makes the change then. He set each one for my preference and I'll see if it works tonight. Thanks for all the help.
