Dear Newtocpap
I know exactly what you are talking about. It's been happening to me but somehow I have come out of it, though not completely. As I am about to drift into sleep, some type of disturbance kicks in and I am wide awake. Like you, initially I had no problems using CPAP for four months and then due to a bad dream had anxiety attacks. I came to this forum and got help. I am now out of my anxiety attacks but has retained some of the final effects. Now I have realised this is all in my mind. All I would think of is that final moment between sleep and wakefulness. Somehow managed successfully to find it and spoil my night. I gave up CPAP for two days. I wanted to reassure myself that atleast I can go back to my previous self. Felt miserable as expected but better than the mental torture I had gone through. I started using cpap again after two days and since then it is getting better and better. The very fact that we go into sleep trying to find that moment is the main culprit. I mean it's all a mind thing. I am not suggesting you to do what I have done as there are more experienced people right here who can help. I just wanted to share my experience here.
Racing heart while using CPAP
Re: Racing heart while using CPAP
Thanks for your reply. I totally agree that my brain has trouble going from concious to sleep, almost like the wires in my brain are getting crossed as I try to drift off if that makes any sense. I endure all sorts of odd sleep disturbances on an almost nightly basis. Hopefully in talking with a sleep therapist I can get some help, maybe there's something he can see in my data or at least make recommendations to help with all of this.
