Testing the taping

Post by JaxTom » Wed Jun 10, 2015 10:51 pm

After a couple years of near 0.0 AHI's on my ASV S-9, I am working on day 2 of testing the taping scenario. Got some of the 3M Micropore tape. Very satisfied with it so far. The only mask I'v been able to use are Swift FX Nasal Pillows but I was getting too much dry mouth and the wife was telling me I kept getting beeps for air leaks.

Night one seemed to go pretty well. I couldn't tell if I was less tired during the day. Am getting ready for night 2. My leak numbers were still pretty high as seen in Sleepyhead. Med 16.8 95% 38.4 Max 50.40

I might test the Airfit P10 to see how I like the fit and whether it makes any difference in how I feel or my leak rates.

How exactly did you apply the tape: a vertical narrow strip or across the whole mouth or some hybrid method? There are several solutions. You should always put folded over tabs on a few edges so you can pull it off quickly.

When I was taping, here's the way I did it and I feel it is the safest:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I'm doing the horizontal taping thing and have added a "tab" at the end for easy removal. All in all pretty satisfied.

I've been using the 3M paper tape for several months. Sometimes I use a single horizontal strip and other times I use a vertical strip going from under the chin to over the upper lip and cover this with a horizontal strip.

Twice I've been unable to breathe due to getting completely stuffed up. The first time I discovered that I had removed the nasal pillows sometime during the night and also removed the horizontal tape halfway across my mouth. This was all during sleep; I had no memory of having done it.

The second time nightmares awoke me and I discovered that I couldn't breathe.

So I'm not worried about suffocating with the tape on but will try cutting a half-inch slit as was recommended.
