9th Anniversary

I just passed my 9th anniversary on CPAP. I am particularly grateful to the people on this forum who have helped with advice and suggestions; and being so willing to offer their knowledge to any and all coming to this forum.

Hello "old" friend. I arrived here 3 weeks after you after having tried to use cpap for several months. Always feels good to see those from back in the day drop in. Congrats on your milestone.

Wow, 9 years! I'm going on my third year. I've been able to use many helpful suggestions from this site to help me get use to cpap. The forum has really helped me and I'm very grateful since my original DME failed me many, many times.

Congratulations Bookbear!!!! That's pretty impressive. How do you feel physically and mentally about it?

I'm new to Cpap and this site. (On day five.) I'm here to learn the basics, the lingo and get inspiration from people like you.

I honestly don't notice the mask/hose anymore. Sometimes I have to put my hand over the exhaust or glance at the machine to know it's actually on. I NEVER sleep or nap w/o the machine. I feel much better than I did pre-cpap, even with the inevitable health issues aging brings. I KNOW it's extended my life.

My dad was never diagnosed with apnea (this was in the mid-'70's), and there wouldn't have been any treatment anyway; but I know that is what ultimately killed him. I vividly remember nights walking down the hall, hearing him snore loud enough to rattle the window, and then..... stop. And I would stop, waiting for the '<gasp> <snork>' and the resumption of breathing, followed by more snoring. He was always tired. The proximate cause of death was a stroke, but the underlying cause was, I am certain, the apnea. I was exhibiting the same symptoms at the same age as my dad when I was diagnosed.

All the N. American bears are omnivores (in fact, nearly all bear species are; although pandas seem to have evolved slightly away from omni- to mono-, to fill a particular niche... they still have the teeth of an omnivore, but they now lack some digestive enzymes other bears possess). Polars have a pretty restricted set of dietary choices (fish, seals), but can and do eat anything presented to them. Them carrots gots 'em some nice crunch!

Congratulations!! How are you feeling now that you are 9 years in? Do you even remember how you felt before you started your therapy?
