One week on CPAP-not doing well

Post by surf » Mon Jun 08, 2015 9:08 pm

Still waking every 1 1/2 hours. This is all new for me but have discovered how to reset mach, download SleepyHead, so I am learning. My mach was set at 4 -14 from PHC, it was suggested that I narrow the settings, I did 6 - 13 last night but no help. still waking every 1 1/2 hours. Suggested that I down load SleepyHead and get a read out, AHI = 7.27, Obstructed index = 0.59, Hypopnea = 5.16, Clear Airway Index = 1.52, Flow Limitation 0.23, RERA Index = 0.12, % of Cheyne = 1.84

I don't know what any of this really means but from reading I can see that my AHI is not good.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I am a Zombie now from lack of sleep. First night or two it seemed to make things better but now……………

more presssssssure for the hypos.

also, 1 1/2 hour is a sleep cycle. it's normal to wake, or almost wake, and go back to sleep. often we don't remember it though, but the added thingyness of the cpap is rousing you a bit more.

but, really, reading https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize all the way through, all three pages and posting a chart will get a lot more info than a few nightly averages

If you are sleeping well during those 1.5 hour periods and fall back asleep quickly, it sounds like you're off to a fairly good start. There's a good chance once you get your treatment optimized with a bit of pressure tweaking and have fewer events and the equipment has time to feel familiar, the wakeups will be fewer. I still don't sleep through the night, but my sleep in between is deep and feels good, so I'm not too concerned. Good luck with getting that AHI down and seeing how well you sleep then.
