I too have used both SH and Rescan. Sleepyhead is my daily go to software. Mark Watkins and his SH team are to be commended for their efforts. I can only hope they continue to improve it's functionality with new releases and patches.

We have to remember that prior to this last version of SleepyHead those ResMed users who left the SD card out of the ResMed machine got a big fat goose egg for usage for that night. It was only with this last SH version that we at least got the summary data. If there is a big discrepancy (or small) it is possible that there is still a bug in the calculations when it comes to summary usage data as in the past the other files were also need for calculations. Maybe there's still a little bug in there when it comes to this particular situation and/or maybe a bigger potential bug when there is more than one session involved and we get a new session with each turn off and back on of the machine.
Like maybe it is correct with one session but SH gets more confused with 2 or more sessions when summary only files are involved.

Without being able to manual view the flow rate graphs to see the actual flagged events to count and confirm the number of events we simply don't have any way to know for sure...even with ResScan because we don't get any graphs with it either. That's why in this situation I would fall back on ResScan because I would assume that it wouldn't have any of those potential bugs....if I was just hell bent on knowing for sure.

Heck, I still have some nights in SleepyHead showing no usage at all for my S9 Adapt and ResScan shows usage and I know I used it and sometimes I even have the graphs so it isn't all related to the SD card not being in the machine. So....SH still has a few bugs in it but overall it is fairly stable and for Beta software it is pretty darn stable and in the long run an occasional maybe buggy report doesn't really amount to much.
I also have had an occasional ResScan report that defies logic also so I don't know if it is/was ResScan or simply just a bad file on the SD card.

Sometimes I just have to shrug my shoulders and blame the aliens and move on because I can't get 100% for sure answer to something that doesn't make sense no matter which machine because it happens with the Respironics machines too.

FWIW, the two times I left out the SD card from my Respironics ASV, Sleepyhead reported it as 2.5 hours of usage. Where it got that number, I don't know. Interestingly, the first time I left the card out, Sleepyhead displayed a fair amount of data, only to have it disappear the next time I downloaded from the card (I think it usually does 7 days at a time, whatever the last 7 days were each time you download).

Maybe it's Pugsy's famous aliens... I'd love to see the patch for those.

Anyway, the 3x5 "CARD OUT" sign is effective against aliens.

Don't worry about one night. I record my AHI, hours and leak rates from the machine's screen. If I feel good during the day, I don't get concerned with all the stats. If I start feeling bad on a consistent basis, I'll check the numbers. Chasing numbers can drive you crazy!

Just saying...

I will just blow it off as lesson learned. Inquiring minds just want to know, that's all.
