For posterity's sake:

Since bootcamp allows windows to run directly on the hardware, Encore works just fine, including the card reader. I have it installed on Windows XP SP2 on my Mac Book Pro.
Thanks Blarg. This is good to know. After putting up with PC's for 20 years I'm sick of them. My next computer will be a Mac. I started out with an XT with 512k of memory and a 30mg harddrive...LOL. I up graded the memory to 640k and had to plug 12 chips into the motherboard!

An Intel Mac is the most elegant solution, but I have Encore Pro and the smartcard working successfully with Virtual PC and Tiger. I think I'll treat myself to a new imac next year.
