Best CPAP machine for travel

Post by EveOett » Tue May 12, 2015 11:35 am

Friends,

I'm petitioning my insurance company to pay for a travel CPAP since I have to make several air travel trips/year for work.

I have been asked for information on the machine specs and pricing. For those with experience with this sort of thing, what would you recommend?

Best regards,

Eve

Insurance paying for a second machine would be unusual,
But if the travel is work-required, perhaps your employer could help.
--or it could be counted as a work or medical expense on your taxes.
To avoid over-paying, become familiar with the online prices at
secondwind cpap or cpap.com, (the hosts of this forum.)
Local DME's are notorious for scandalous pricing. (And other misdeeds)

CPAP.com has a "Help me Choose" option which should be very useful for you. Here is the direct link to this feature:

Good Luck!

I find it OK to travel with an exact duplicate of my main machine (Resmed S9/H5i) - not small but I know it and trust it...

Thanks so much for the suggestions. The comparison shopping link is very helpful. I wish I had this resource available when I got my home machine in February.

I had a good chat with the customer service person at the CPAP.com website, and she feels the Transcend EZ EX is closest to my current machine, but under a pound. The reviews seem pretty positive. I don't know if I'll be successful with the insurance company - it is a special request and we'll see.

You guys always have helpful suggestions, so thanks. You're great!!
Best, Eve
