question on resp rate and tidal volume, racing heart rate

he's not asking for a larger pic to be posted on dropbox, he's suggesting you zip up the contents of your sd card and upload THAT to dropbox.

that allows folks like him and robysue to zoom in on detail without dozens of "can you zoom in on this spot, no, zoom in more, no, too much, zoom out a little, now move 12 minutes ahead and do it again on .... no, you missed the event, go back 30 seconds." posts.

Ok. That sounds great. I'll figure that out tonight.

LOL. No wonder.... It got somewhat better on its own, then I went backwards and now I have the rapid heart rate added in too. It's been a struggle for sure.

So looking at the "stable" breathing, we see:



while the "unstable" breathing reveals:



Putting in a -0- line in the "unstable" breathing:



The "unstable breathing is actually some wicked flow limitation (not necessarily BFM, but certainly MFM (right, "Medium" FM).

Have a few more thousand breaths to look at, but that's a good place to start.

Going back to original question, the severe flow limitation often includes a stutter or blip in the inspiratory wave (or maybe it's an expiratory bounce) that is interpreted as a separate breath. That results in an erroneously high RR (in this case 23 when the true rate is only ~11):

if you're using the 0.9.8-1 version of SH, you can right click the legend at the left of the chart and turn on a dotted line at zero. (and a bunch of other dotted lines)
