Re: My Periodic Soapbox Speech About Ramp
Personally, I don't think this discussion has anything to do with ramp. This forum has ticked newbies, and folks that use ramp and perceive themselves as not newbies... when we use the phrase "training wheels" for folks that use ramp. It is a fact, that as you travel down the cpap road, most folks will ditch ramp... normally sooner rather than later. Very few keep the feature more on a comfort level. A person who has some success at cpap therapy does not like to be called a newbie, especially when they think they aren't and when they regularly hand out advice. Whenever I see the ramp referred to "training wheels", my first thought is of how many folks are offended... and how many will say so. I mean really... who gives a dang if someone uses ramp or not. We should have an annointing ceremony where a newbie graduates. Pugsy can do the annointing, as long as she wears a crown... hands out certificates and brings food. Palerider can be the jester. I'll cary a whip...

Re: My Periodic Soapbox Speech About Ramp
Interesting thread and IMHO there are several good points and some that ARE silly, not IMHO silly.
The thought that a very large company is shipping a product/manual that inaccurately describes something that the company thinks is a selling feature and is actually implemented, on purpose, in the product is truly silly. IF this ever happened it could/would lead to a product recall and/or a law suit. There are ZERO small manufacturers of CPAP machines.
The possibility that a user could describe what they feel like when using a product and that description being different than what the manual technically describes as the products operation ALWAYS happens with some very well intended people.
Something that the company describes as a positive feature will ALWAYS be seen by some as useless. There are ALWAYS others that will absolutely love something that everyone else hates.
IF a feature was not even available when you started using a product and you have since upgraded to products that do have this feature, but have NEVER USED it or tried it and decided that it was not for you, should perhaps not judge the efficacy of the feature or any users that have decided to use the feature. The counter to this position is to label users that choose not to use a new feature as "cavemen", "self haters", "masochists" or some such drivel.
All of these are the human nature of large populations and none of them are conspiracies.

and then repeatedly talk about it as if it were fact.
