HDM Z1 noise fix audio recording

Post by bill-e » Fri May 01, 2015 7:13 am

This recording has three machines, PR System One, Z1A without fix and Z1A with fix. Each machine is about 20 seconds, then some changeover noise, then the next machine.

I recorded this sitting on my bed with my phone on the bed about the distance my head would be from the machines. I am just sitting on my bed wearing the mask.

Z1 Recording

What is the Z1 with fix? Big difference in the middle sound!

The recordings are in the order stated above, PR System One, Z1A without fix and Z1A with fix.

Obvious! What I am asking is what is Z1 fix. Did not know there was a fix. There's a big difference in Z1 and Z1 fix! So what is it?

It's basically a small muffler. About 3" long and not much larger in diameter than a standard hose and with its adapter adds about 9" to the length of your hose.

Sounds as if the device is a low-pass sound filter that cuts out higher frequencies.
Where did your purchase it?

It will be available from HDM very soon. I've been testing it since about November and just received the pre-production sample. I do not have the little adapter hose as they are not available yet so I use a 2' piece I had. The shorter adapter hose will reduce the sound level even more as even my short hose emanates a lot of noise.

I'm about to complete my second week on the pre-production unit and it works as well or better than the much larger prototype I used for months.

Hopefully it will be available soon.

I just ordered a Z1 Auto today, knew it would be louder than a larger more insulated machine, and my intended fix is White Noise on my iPhone, w/earbuds. Your recording is pretty loud! Guess I will be in the market for the muffler when available. Really should come with the unit if they are all as loud as your recording.

Thanks for this recording! Sounds like a huge improvement.

Does the muffler fit into any standard hose, the way their HME does? Trying to figure out if I can use this with my Transcend (I already use the Z1 HME with my Transcend) to get me by until I'm ready to replace the Transcend with the Z1.

Does it need to be installed at a specific point (closest to the machine, closest to the mask, etc)?

Will work with any standard hose. You want it nearest the CPAP in order to cut noise as soon as possible. If you installed it near the mask the hose would be emanating noise along its length just as it does now.

I used my Z1 last night for the first time, used my iPhone earphone & listened to a podcast with one earbud in and didn't notice much noise at all. What did bother me was the new mask. Made the mistake of changing to small nasal mask when I'm used to ffm. Following the recommendations I've read in this forum, I had my regular machine & mask ready so I switched over. Will try again tonight with usual mask.

Please keep up the pre-production work. I am new to the Z1 noise problem and find it quite annoying. As does my wife. Please also let us know how to purchase it.
