Kind of a Newb

Post by Mikey2112 » Thu Apr 30, 2015 9:12 am

Hello all,

I was diagnosed with OSA 2 years ago and never took well to the CPAP therapy. I eventually gave up trying different masks and nothing worked.
Recently a family member was diagnosed and took to his CPAP almost instantly and is feeling great. Plus I was finding myself falling asleep in the middle of the day. The last time was a real wake up call (pardon the pun) as fell a sleep in my car while waiting to pick my child up at school. Luckily the car was in park.
I recently purchased a new mask the Airtfit F-10 full face mask. I have started adapting to it and the past to nights I have gotten more quality sleep that in the last 2 years. One issue I had last night looking at my data was a leak the machine indicated a 26%. Reading the review of this mask now I see that leakage is an issue. My question is Do the Remzzs mask liners work? The other mask I have is the Quattro soft Edge? Plus a Wisp nasal mask which I could not use too much of a mouth breather.
Any advice would be great or if any of you full face mask wearers have a favorite I would welcome your feedback

Karen, a member here designed liners and strap padding for most masks - look up Padacheek.com - they're quite popular.

What model machine are you using? Your profile shows a Respironics humidifier but the model machine affects what the leak number means. Whatever you chose for a machine isn't showing up. Tell us the 3 digit model number (may have DS, RER or P in front or behind the 3 digits) and we will point you to the correct choice in the equipment profile menu.
Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit model number.
If it is a 60 series machine that means 26% of the time you were in large leak territory but if it is a different model machine it might just be an average leak which includes vent rate and 26 L/min isn't big leak at all.

I don't use a full face mask so I can't help with specifics on those masks.

Do mask liners work? For many people yes they help a lot but for some they don't. You are going to find that pretty much all this cpap stuff comes with a big YMMV sticker. What works great for one person doesn't always work so great for the next person. People will tell you what works great for them but there's no guarantee that it will work for you.
Padacheek.com has some excellent mask liners.
Also you can try making your own out of an old Tshirt to give you an idea if it would help or not.

Welcome! Many of us have gone through the same thing. I caught myself falling asleep while driving home from work many years ago.

You'll get great advice here. There are many, many tips and tricks to overcome the common problems and make the cpap work better for you.

You're already getting help filling out your equipment part of the profile so people know what equipment you have. Hopefully, you've got something compatible with the wonderful, free SleepyHead software will let people look at how your nights are going in detail.

Resolve that this time you're going to make it work and will do whatever it takes. It's so important for your health and life.

Thank you all !
What's strange is I have the CPAP selected in my equipment list but it is not showing. I have a PR System One Remstar Pro with C-Flex Plus.

I like Remzzz for a mask liner. I can rewash them several times since they are made out of cotton baby jersey fabric... after washing just spread them out on a clean surface like a plate to dry. They are soft and thin plus very comfortable. Just google them and a link will pop up. Spell them exactly: Remzzz

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

You can read a lot about the F10 mask fitting on NateS's following post.

Best of luck with the therapy. You're in good hands with the folks here.

Best,

Mike

Check the number on the bottom of your blower after removing the water. If you have a REF# 460 then in the profile you have to scroll down to the choices that say 60 series in them.

you have to put it in a comment, if you're sure that you have a 450 model (look on the bottom for the REF number)

This is a question for others rather than an answer, but does your machine have a setting for mask type? Just wondering if that affects how it sees leaks.
