Disable Respironics PR one System alarm when starting up
Disable Respironics PR one System alarm when starting up
Anyone know how to disable the loud "beep" sound when you first start the machine? It's very loud and annoying.
thanks!
thanks!

That is called "silent mode" in the clinical set up menu.
Set to "On" it won't beep when it is turned on.
If you don't see "silent mode" available in the clinical set up menu then it isn't available on the machine.
I think all the 60 series machines have it....not sure about all the 50 series machines though. It wasn't available with the 50 series machines that I had but might have been available on the later 50 series models.

I have the PR One 60 series (BiPap) but do not see "silent mode" in clinical setup.
Does that mean I'm stuck with the beep? :/

You have the model 960?
I know the 960 doesn't have the ability to turn off some alarm beeps but I thought all the 60 series had Silent mode available but maybe it doesn't.
I will go look at the manual and see if it is shown.
I don't have that model machine so I haven't actually seen it on that model but I have seen it on both the 660 and 760 machines that I have owned.

I don't seem to see it on the manual that I have for the 960...though it really looks like a 950 manual.
If you don't see Silent mode down near the bottom close to "Language" then you don't have it.
I will be getting a 960 next week and will look to make sure if it's there or not because I used Silent Mode with my 660 and 760 machines.
I thought all the 60 series machines had Silent mode available but I guess that didn't include the 960 and probably the 1160.
You may see a feature called "Patient Alarm"....I don't know if turning off that alarm feature will disable the turning on beep or not.
Otherwise I don't know of any way to turn off that initial beep when the machine is first turned on short of messing with the computer board inside the blower and I don't go there at all.

no mention of "silent" in the manual.Pugsy wrote:Silent mode available but maybe it doesn't.

there's always the radical fix method... open it up and put some tape over the squeaker... (some people just rip the squeaker off, but I'm not advising that)

Re: Disable Respironics PR one System alarm when starting up
I remember silent mode as one of the improvements introduced "silently" during production of the same model machines without much of an announcement.
It's also possible it's in some models and not others. They have some weird differences in the 960 model, such as no auto-off option.

Yea I just checked again near language and don't see it. I have "Apnea alarm" and "patient disconnect" alarm.

I want to know who thought that beep at the moment the machine starts was a good idea in the first place. I think the homicide is justifiable in this case.

Re: Disable Respironics PR one System alarm when starting up
I don't know about the 960 BIPAP machine, but my 560 APAP has a 'Silent Mode' setting in the 'Setup' menu, that can be turned off or on. This setting is in both the User and Provider menus. Some Provider settings are designed to enable or disable settings that are available to users on the standard menu, but Silent Mode does not appear to be one of them.

Re: Disable Respironics PR one System alarm when starting up
Here's a non-invasive way to cut the beep sound on PRs down by about 90%. IOW, it is nearly silent. It works great and I currently use this method which takes about five minutes and you don't have to open the case... plus it is reversible if you ever want to sell the machine or whatever:
Reprinted from a test and post I wrote last year. As some of you may know I've long complained about the very loud beeps coming from my 960 (even my brand new one). I finally found out that you can suppress the PR's beeper by about 90% (not sure what that is in dBs) and still have the soft beeps alert you to problems the machine may be having down the road. This is what I call the bed partner friendly modification since the unmodified 950s and 960s beep very loudly when turned off and on. BTW, the hole is on the corner bottom of the machine. Here's a photo I took of my solution. Sorry I can't remember who alerted me to this tip.

As you can see next to the 'X' , there is the cut-off shaft of a standard Q-tip (no cotton) shoved into the hole provided by PR. Take special note, that the Q-tip is also wedged in firmly with the cut off tip of a toothpick which makes the modification solid but it can still later be removed with a small needlenose pliers, if so desired. The pressure with which you shove the Q-tip into the central transducer diaphragm of the buzzer determines to what degree the sound/beeps are attenuated. Lastly I simply cover the whole modification with some duct tape to make sure nothing gets bumped and that the q-tip and toothpick stay in place. Hope this works for you like it did for me.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: Disable Respironics PR one System alarm when starting up
I got a few questions PM'd to me regarding the technique directly above, so here's some elaboration:
The Q-tip goes in all the way till it contacts the transducer disk (beeper) on the motherboard. I can't remember how far it goes in but I'd guess 3/8 to 1/2 inch, perhaps a little more, you'll know when the Q-tip bottoms out. It needs to really press on the speaker disk to dampen the sound - the toothpick is ONLY there to wedge in the Q-tip to the desired tension (a quarter inch of toothpick is all that's needed). IOW, The short piece of toothpick is there just to jam the Q-tip shaft against the edge of the hole, NOT TO CONTACT THE BEEPER.
You really need to press in the Q-tip firmly and then wedge it in place with a short piece of toothpick - doing so, you should be able to cut the sound down to a faint beep (you can't completely eliminate the beeps as far as I know). It does take some force to do this but obviously don't go crazy and ruin the beeper. It's sort of a process of trial and error, therefore push in the Q-tip and wedge it and test the result, for more dampening of the beeper push the Q-tip in a little harder and wedge it in place with the toothpick, etc etc. Hope that helps. Tip: Leave both the Qtip and toothpick shafts long when you're doing the testing then cut them off later with a pair of wire cutters when you get the volume reduction you need. You'll need to leave a little bit sticking up so you can pull the Q-tip out if you need to later... a quarter inch is plenty. Somebody mentioned using glue on the Q-tip but I don't recommend that because you'll be locked in to having the Q-tip in there permanently. A little silicon sealant on the exposed part of the Q-tip might work okay because you could use a razor knife to free it up later - I'll leave it up to you guys to test that out.
I do have a technique for eliminating the sound/beeps with a ResMed machine but it's fairly challenging, so if you don't know your way around electronics it can mess up your machine.
