Another flexifit 431 question

Post by josh » Wed Jun 28, 2006 5:21 am

I have 3 FF 431 facemasks...basically got a new one every time my insurance changed. My newest one has a bunch of vent holes in the nasal area, whereas my older ones don't. I was wondering if this messes up the actual pressure being acted on my throat? My pressure is set at 11 cfm, and there is a lot of air coming out of the nasal area. I ask, because I feel tired and groggy (for some time now), and was wondering if the design change is the problem. Thanks!!

Bias

Post by GoofyUT » Wed Jun 28, 2006 7:12 am

Josh-
I recently got an F&P 431(A) and it too, has lots of little holes over the nose. These provide bias flow for the mask which is the exhaust of carbon dioxide when you exhale, which is a designed in and necessary feature of the mask. All have it. The older F&P431s that you had, had some provision for bias flow. I just don't know wht it was since I never saw one.

These DO NOT degrade your treatment. The mask is designed to deliver therapeutic pressures to your upper airway, with the bias flow figured in.

Hope this helps.

Correct, It's added washout for CO2, I like the fact it makes the mask cooler, than my Comfortful mask, however I do find that my AHI goes up when I use the F & P 431,, in fact it almost doubles, but that's not a problem as it never goes above AHI 3.5, And the mask is much more wearable. Jim

So, how do you know what your AHI is? Is there some special equipment to check that on a nightly basis? I would be curious to know what mine is from night to night...

Josh, unfortunately your Remstar Plus doesn't have software capability to see your nightly AHI. The Pro 2 does, but not the Pro or the Plus.
