Run time Airsense 10 Autoset

Post by lc96 » Mon Apr 06, 2015 11:19 am

I just received a new Airsense 10 Autoset. I used it for one night, but noticed a weird smell. Cleaned tubing and water tub, smell still there. I was looking around at settings, and went to About. Under runtime, it says 315. What is that? Hours? Minutes? If it's minutes, it's incorrect, as I used the machine 8.5 hours. I feel suspicious due to the smell. I don't remember any smell from the last time I received a new machine.

Run time hours are the total amount of hours the blower has been used. This number cannot be reset.
Now the Usage and therapy hours can be reset.
Your machine was not as new as you thought it was.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf
page 17 down at the bottom
the machine was used and then likely the data was erased and reset if your usage hours don't match run hours.

Page 22 of the guide Pugsy linked to talks about the 'reprocessing' procedure for cleaning the machine for someone else to use.

My 'new' machine had ~140 run hours and 0 usage hours on it... I was there when the DME unpacked it - it was a Resmed cardboard box, the machine wrapped in bubble wrap with the stickers over screen and dial - not sure where those run hours came from.

A second machine from another DME had 0 run hours on it.

FYI, both of my AirSense 10s had a plastic, off-gassing smell the first few seconds I ran them but after that it was fine.

First thing I did when I got my machine, I checked run hours--ZERO (0).
Right in the office, on their desk. I do not "do" home visits.
They can leave your place when they are done, but you can stay at theirs until YOU are.

As you can imagine, I'm very unhappy. I have a call in to the person who set the machine up. I will do exactly as suggested, go back in and look at run time before I take it home. I got it in the office, but didn't even think to look at run time. Do they tell the insurance company that a new machine was provided?

If insurance is paying, and it's not a rental, I cannot imagine why you should get a used machine.
Maybe for a rental, but certainly not Medicare! Federal LAW, and all that.

I'm picking up a new Resmed A 10 auto set For Her in a couple of days. I will definitely check this out, preferably before I get it home , assuming the DME let's me get at the controls while I'm in their office. They seem to be a sleazy outfit and I don't trust them about anything. I hope they don't try to pass off a used mask as new.

Update: DME called and I have an appt. for a replacement tomorrow. They were very apologetic, but said insurance stipulates either a refurb or a new one will be covered. Called insurance, they said they will cover it, no problem, but didn't make a comment about my perception which is that it's deceptive.

Davecpap: wondering why you got a 2nd one.

I was travelling for business when my S8 Autoset II died in NYC. The fastest way to replacement was a doctor's office in NYC I found with the help of this board. It was the only place in all of Manhattan I could find selling CPAP machines. The office had a 'new' Airsense 10 but didn't take my insurance, so I paid cash.

Prior to paying doctor cash, I called insurance - it was Carecentrix who suggested I pay cash for machine number #1 and then use insurance for machine #2 as a spare. They said it would be impossible for them to get me a machine quickly.

Later when I got back home, I was able to use my insurance to get another machine... so now I have a spare. It took like three weeks to coordinate getting the machine between Cigna, Carecentrix, American HomePatient! Knowing how long it took through insurance, I'm still thankful I was able to get that machine cash in NYC so quickly.

I pretty quickly decided I didn't care about ~140 run hours on the machine. I was grateful I was able to find a CPAP machine while traveling, and the Airsense 10 was very new at the time and thats what I wanted. Also, it was only DME I could find anywhere in midtown manhattan and having replacement machine salvaged my business trip!

People buy used machines, DMEs are known to hand out reprocessed machines. I'm sure machine at my sleep study was used by others. Life is covered in germs. Plus it being a CPAP machine means its inherently difficult for germs to travel INTO the machine since the airflow is OUT. New tubing/mask seems good to me.

If you are concerned check out the 'reprocessing' procedure in the clinical manual for your CPAP machine. It shows how to prep machine for another user.
