PRS1 Card Slot Repair
Has anyone had to repair the card slot on a PRS1 60 series machine? The slot will not hold the SD card in place. When I insert the card it does not catch and stay in the machine, it ejects. I'll send a message to Accurate, but was hoping someone here might have some idea if there is an easy fix.

Re: PRS1 Card Slot Repair
I was able to remove the cover that allows a modem to be inserted by the SD slot and use a piece of folded business card to apply enough tension to the SD card to overcome the pressure of ejection spring. The card can now read and write correctly, but it's a fiddly operation to get it in securely. Looks like I need a new slot installed, or I need to disassemble the unit to get access to the card slot, disassemble it and remove the ejection spring.
Sure would be nice if I could just take it down the street to the Philips Respironics factory here in Murrysville and have them repair it.

How old is the machine? If it is less then 2 years old it may be covered under the warrantee. I would call the DME if it was under 2 years old and they may just replace it with a new machine or get it repaired.

Re: PRS1 Card Slot Repair
I got this one off Craigslist. I had under 200 hours, and is now 708 hours. The machine dates back to 2012 so I think I am S.O.L. for support.
Card readers do have this problem occasionally, and I have replaced them in computers. I have not had the PRS1 apart, but could probably do the repair if I got access to the reader. At the very least I could remove the eject spring.

Re: PRS1 Card Slot Repair
the machine is *easy* to take apart, you just need a long shank t15 for the two case screws, and a t20 for the screw that holds the board in place. several plug connectors and you're free.Sleeprider wrote:Card readers do have this problem occasionally, and I have replaced them in computers. it's just a standard sd card socket, if you're good with desoldering, you can source a new one and swap them out.
you might be able to clean the one that's there, it might be a bit of fluff that's clogged the retaining arm, possibly without taking the thing apart, maybe using a needle to get in there.
oh, I just thought about sticking the tube from some canned air in there, holding the thing so the slot points down, and giving it some shots... I'll have to try that on the non latching slot I have on a notebook, and report back.

Good feedback. I have all the Torx drivers and compressed air. I'll give it a shot so to speak.

What the Hell kind of company is that? (now turning sarcasm mode off)
I think I would at least try......and see what kind of reaction I'd get. (if I lived in that town)
If you need a contact name in there, I've got one.
If he's still working there, it'll probably get you thrown out on your ear.

Re: PRS1 Card Slot Repair
I agree that it's just a stock sdcard socket that you can buy from many places and replace. It's got a little locking mechanism that is probably shot.
Another option would be to stick a wireless sdcard into it and shim it in place like you are doing now. Then you won't have to remove it any more and can use the wonderful sleep master software to grab the data wirelessly. Just make sure you get a wireless card supported by sleep master.

Re: PRS1 Card Slot Repair
All good ideas, and Den I will call them Monday, but I bet I don't get past the receptionist without a contact.
Palerider has been abusing my vulnerable sensitivities since he arrived here, so I would not actually put it past him to also assail my ear.

only when you post half assed, misleading/wrong stuff.Sleeprider wrote:Palerider has been abusing my vulnerable sensitivities since he arrived here, so I would not actually put it past him to also assail my ear.
and, as far as your ear goes, you're greatly over-estimating the level of effort I'd be willing to put in.

Here's a good blow by blow description with pics on how to take apart a PR S1, I don't go so far as recommend you disable the speaker as shown, however it does give a good idea of what is involved in disassembly:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: PRS1 Card Slot Repair
I called Philips Respironics here in town, and was referred to Customer service. Customer service gave me a number of a repair clearinghouse, and they asked me all kinds of questions about "how do you get your prescription input without a RN or DME?" They offered me a repair number in Syracuse, and Accurate Biomed in Missouri where our own Accurate has his business. No contest, I called Ian.
I got a call back and Ian was with his repair manager, and they broke the bad news that the card slot is part of the main board and this is a major expensive repair. While I have all the confidence in the world in their repair skills, I won't pay more for a repair than I paid for the machine. Sooooo, now I'm free to hack my own repair. It's no big deal to do a "springectomy" and fix this like I have done on PC card slots. In the end, the card reads fine, but without the spring, I'll have to pull it out with a finger nail rather than have it pop out. I can deal with that.
SD card readers have a predictable failure rate. This was not abuse, but the unit is out of warranty. Props to Accurate for getting back to me with the honest appraisal.
