Change Pressure on a Different CPAP

Post by Zurls » Sun Mar 15, 2015 6:22 pm

Hi. I have used the same CPAP machine for about 20 year and it has worked amazingly well. It finally died last night and, luckily, I have my father's old CPAP machine, but it is not set for me. I found a manual online that tells how to change the pressure settings, but that is not my problem. I know that my old machine was set at 9 atmospheres of pressure. Unfortunately, the new machine lists pressure available as between 4.0 and 20.0 cm H2O. Also using an online calculator I found that 9 atmospheres = 9297 cm H2O, so that is absolutely no help. Can anyone help to provide the proper number so I can use this?

Set it to 9 on the new machine.

Zurls: Your original machine was set on 9cm H20 pressure which is 9 mBar. 1 Atm ~ 1013mBar. All cpap machines go upto a max of 30cm h20.

To have 9 atm pressure, you need to be diving under 90meters of water. Try blowing bubbles 25cm below water (25cm h20 pressure) and compare it to breathing against your cpap machine.

9 atmospheres would cause you to explode like a popped balloon.

red gooey stuff ALL over, walls, floor, ceiling, in the vents.. kind of like that scene in Scanners.
