non-awakening honking- hmmm

Post by Denial Dave » Wed Mar 11, 2015 4:59 pm

I've got a new problem, but I'm not a newbie....I've been at this for 2 1/2 years now with a lot of success... I've been using pad-a-cheek liners since almost day 1.

Here's the issue; my wife is complaining about my mask honking in the middle of the night...BUT I completely sleep through all of the reported noises.

I only notice the noises after she shakes the bed or elbows me. She tells me after a few nudges I roll over and the noises go away.

I used to get elbowed to start breathing or to stop snoring, now I get elbowed for mask honking!

My leak levels are the same as they have always been.... 95% rate is under 10 every night & my AHI is 0.0- 0.5. My flow limitations are steady too.

I've changed the pillow, mask cushion, headgear, tried brand new liners, etc.... nothing seems to stop it

Is it possible that after 2 1/2 years that the Quattro mask frame is the culprit?

Dave

tell her "quit pokin me woman, just fix the mask and let me sleep!".

I don't know what to think of 'honking' as a sound, though.

I get that from my husband, just like before CPAP - whenever I get on my back. Could you be sneaking onto your back without knowing it? Ask your wife to check your position before she give you the elbow.

so, in this instance, are you saying that dave is honking his wife, or... she's honking him?

if I'm honking my wife, I'm sleeping through it and missing all the fun

No reports of my sleeping on my back. my hunch is that the "honking" are minor face farts that aren't loud enough to wake me, but disturb her sleep.

My plan is to swap out the 2 1/2 year old Quattro frame tonight. I doubt it is the cause of the issue, but everything else is brand new.

if that doesn't solve it, then I'll buy her some ear plugs

LOL

This could be a first: --pad a cheek mask liner gives relief to spouse!

weird problem solved.... I swapped out the old Quattro frame and no more honking.... upon examination we found a hairline crack in the old frame near where the hose connects.

I can't explain why it caused the noises, but whatever I can do to make my wife happy is a good thing
