Intense itching around face mask

Post by SailorJerry » Tue Mar 10, 2015 10:17 am

This didn't start right away, perhaps after about 6 weeks.
The area is not red or sore.
But I awake many times with an intense itch where the mask touches my skin.
I wear the mask tight to prevent leaks so I must remove it, scratch and put it back on.

I sometimes shave before bed to get a better seal. Itch does not seem directly related to nights that I shave.

Just thinking now, it might be related to moisture. I have a cpap with humidifier set to 4.
I don't often get any moisture build up in the mask.

Any suggestions?

---Old, limp cushion may lack stability and flex you need for comfort.
---Read "Taming the Mirage Quattro", in case you are wearing it too tight, or have been given the wrong size,
style, etc. for your face.
---Mask liner, like Pad a Cheek, if you have not tried it already.
---wipe face with unscented baby wipes before bed.

Great tips, I just read the article on Taming the Mirage Quattro.

I did not realize how the double silicon cushion was supposed to work.
I think I have had the mask too tight.

many people have experienced mask nose itch, trimmed their nostril hairs aggressively so there wasn't anything to be blown around in the breeze, and had the itch go away. it *never* seems to itch IN the nose, just around it.

Maybe Palerider thinks your nose hairs are VERY LONG!

Lanolin type product sold in the baby section of Target/Walmart. It works wonders for dry skin and itching...

did you read the last part of the very brief post above?

I'll reinterate:
it *never* seems to itch IN the nose, just around it.
but, hey, I'm just reporting what others have said.

OK, sorry I missed that part.
To test, I just plucked a half dozen of those little buggers easily so yes, I will try trimming them.
Will advise. Because who doesn't want an in depth nasal hair update ?
