How does that work exactly - your doctor checks the hours and gets approval from the insurance co for a new script? Or can you just ask the DME directly?
I only have one machine so it'd be nice to get the new one as early as possible and make this one the backup.

If insurance paid for the first one, take the date on the statement, add five years, and there you are-
-unless the old one needs to be non-working for your insurance to pay for it.
If you are paying out of pocket, there is no limitation.

Thanks for the reminder. I didn't even think of that and we are both incredibly sensitive to smoke.
I didn't realize how many machine backups folks have, not just backup masks. Makes me more amenable to going the used route if there will be multiple soon. Just need to look into ensuring proper cleaning (if any) of the machine to suit my pseudo-germaphobe self. Although my husband isn't so particular and will actually be using it, I'm the person who does all the procurement and research.
Thanks All!

the official "cleaning" of the flow generator is "wipe down the outside and change the filter".
pretty much the same for the humidifier, with the addition of "wash the tank".
