Mouth guard that won't crowd tongue space?

I apparently brux like crazy at night, and with a new crown, I need to protect my chompers. My only issue is a need a night guard that won't interfere or crowd my tongue, which I believe is a large part of my apneas.

Any suggestions for good over the counter night guards that won't crowd tongue space? (My dentist recommends getting one made there, but of course those are like $200+.)

I grind my teeth a lot at night as well. I have been having some soreness in a crown I had put in a couple months back. I'm afraid if I try a mouth guard there will be no room to breath with that and my fat tongue.

Before you spend too much money, you could try one of the cheapie boil and bite mouth guards
from the sporting goods department at WalMart. If it helps, good. If not, you are only out a buck or so.
Many of us have tongue crowding, luckily, the tongue is flexible, and yours is not as sticky as mine.

I second trying a cheapie from Walmart/a drugstore. Or in the dental section, there should be a couple of boil and bite single guard options for grinding that'll run you about $20. If they crowd your tongue fitted to your upper teeth, you could try fitting them to the lower teeth instead. I believe there is also a version that only has a pair of blocks for the back teeth, so it could potentially stop the grinding while leaving you more room in the mouth overall (I haven't tried that type).

I had a guard made by my dentist when I got two new crowns and it was absolutely unwearable because it was some awful rigid acrylic material...so tight and uncomfortable it made my teeth sore, and I certainly couldn't figure out how gnawing on that rock hard slice of evil was supposed to be better than grinding! The drugstore types are softer, cheaper, and much better suited to the purpose, imo.

The acrylic one from my dentist was seriously so tight on those new crowns that I was afraid it was eventually going to pull one of them off when I removed it. Maybe your dentist's version would be a different type than mine, but find out before wasting all that money. Those things are a racket as far as I'm concerned.

I have used a dentist provided mouth guard for years and just got a new one. He fits it when it arrives and makes adjustments in his little work shop shelf and they fit perfectly(only two in tenn years). This time all he did was adjust the bite a bit by taking off(dremmel?") after having me bite down on carbon paper to check for high spots. Also I heat it a bit in hot tap water to soften a bit as teeth move from all the time. Mine seems hard to the touch at room temp. I anyone is unhappy with the fit take it back for adjustment. Mine is much smaller the OTC guards.

I liked it better than the athletic style one that have a split in the gap in the airway hole. My tongue just love to jam into this middle support and it hurts after a while.

Below is the cheapest price I've found for the Doctor's NightGuard Advanced Comfort Dental Protector. I like them because you only boil and mold it to your upper teeth. You can also mold it to your lower teeth if you prefer, however you'll have to cut about 3/16" off of each end to make it fit in the smaller space. That's the way I do it. Here's the link:

If you do not want to crowd your tongue try using a lower jaw mouth guard. I have a large tongue and a tongue thrust. I tried an upper jaw(teeth) mouth guard and almost threw up with the gag reflex. My dentist then suggested a lower jaw(teeth) mouth guard. Works perfectly.
