Military Reserves
Military Reserves
I am new here and I have moderate sleep apnea. I am an activated Air Force Reservist. The reserves are pinging out. Does anyone have any experience with the Air Force reserve system and Sleep Apnea or the CPAP machine?
I'm not sure how the Reserves deal with OSA. But my husband was active duty Air Force for 11 years before he was diagnosed with OSA. He was on orders for Korea and the Air Force determined he was not World Wide Mobility Ready since he has to use Cpap. He was given a Medical Discharge in Aug 2000. I'm not sure if this helps or not. I guess it depends on what your particular job is and where they are sending you.

TAP dental device
Thornton Adjustable Positioner can be seen at: amisleep.com/home.html
It's a dental device that moves the lower jaw forward to help open the airway while sleeping. Works well for some people, so I've read. At least one person posted his sleep study reports - one PSG without and one PSG with the TAP. Another who had not been helped after a year on cpap tried the TAP - worked for her. Besides her report of dramatic improvement in the way she felt, she got good readings on an overnight pulse oximeter while using the TAP. The hardest part is probably finding a dentist who is experienced enough with the TAP to make a truly good assessment of who is a good candidate for it and who is not.
