Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and Sleep Apnea
Re: Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and Sleep Apnea
Wow, I thought being at 10K was extreme. This is one of those email the manufacturer things, I'd guess. I hope you're going to have a real trip.
0 degrees C and 10+ K wouldn't be MY idea of a good trip.

How do you suppose that ..Roblane... another "guest" found this old thread ?
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and Sleep Apnea
Fort what it is worth; I have sever Apnea and have climbed MT. Whitney 2X without the use of Cpap. YMMV.

I don't care if it's a real thing or not. Sounds interesting.
I took a road trip in NM this week.

It's called Google. I don't understand all the doubters. Fair question and I'm doing the same some with a combination of provent and a Cpap with battery pack for the extreme altitude.grayghost4 wrote:How do you suppose that ..Roblane... another "guest" found this old thread ?
I've tested it out in an altitude stimulation centre and am still here.
You guys should really be a bit more open minded.
Re: Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and Sleep Apnea
Probable the water in the HH frost up and busted the tank, then on the second night his pack fell down the slope and busted. Jimchunkyfrog wrote:Hmm, a guest with an improbable/foolhardy/dangerous proposal.
Any chance we've been punked?
I vote for puked and repunked.

Roblane... not gonna happen here. Many of the people who responded to you think that open minded people should have brain surgery.Roblane wrote:

That's quite a climb... hope you come back and tell us all about it. That is if you aren't yanking the old chain.

Re: Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and Sleep Apnea
I'm a brand-new CPAP user and I too am very interested in this thread. Mountaineering and trekking *is* my thing, and I am truly hoping that I'll find a portable solution that works for those outdoor, high-altitude overnights. As it stands now, my asthma and apparently rotten sleep are keeping me from fulfilling goals and I'm hope, hope, hoping that excellent compliance and getting my numbers dialed in (another thread for another time) gives me my exercise function back. I read reviews that suggest the jury is still out on the latest and lightest solutions, so I appreciate input.
Thanks!
Thanks!

That sometimes happens when you use the 'back arrow' button on your browser to go back to your previously edited (and submitted) message. You end up with a double posting. It trips up the post editor.Lucyhere wrote:huh? Double post.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Thanks, Sir. I'll keep that in mind in the future.

Re: Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and Sleep Apnea
Too bad the original poster on this thread didn't report back on his outcome
I will be climbing Kili (19341') in December and intend to bring my BiPAP up the hill, or should I say I plan to have the porters bring my BiPAP up the hill, along with 5 nights worth of batteries. I have slept at 10000' multiple times (with APAP but not BiPAP) with no problem, but the altitudes I'll be facing on my trip is a whole other ballgame. I have done some research that indicates pressures need to be increased, Diamox is helpful, and bleeding some oxygen into my line is a plus as well.
Will be dayhike Whitney (14505') this coming weekend (14th time), and thinking it might be a good idea to drag my machine and a battery to the top while I'm at it for a 30-60 test nap and see what happens.
Would appreciate any other input from others that have any experience with PAP at high altitudes

D.H., I think I see a pattern here, the need to Climb Mt Kilimanjaro, causes Sleep Apnea, and I didn't even need to turn my trash can over.

Re: Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and Sleep Apnea
Well, I like this thread ! Never give up. There are certainly many people out there with sleep apnea that do mountaineering.
It is not that if you have severe sleep apnea that you have to give up every thing like mountains, diving, high level sport's .
I would think that if you use your cpap regularly, have a good condition, hang up your bivouac outside in mid winter, keep the batteries in your sleeping bag that you can make it pretty far. Also I would not hesitate to go on without the cpap for a few days. It won't kill you. You just will be a bit more tired and may need to plane in more rest than others. Just go for it and report back here.
