Ever changed elevation rapidly?

Not to worry, there is not air blowing out your ears.

This sound familiar to me.. 2 yrs ago I had a virus ..chest congestion, ears plugged, sinus. I had lots of antibiotics, tubes inserted in ears. Finally hearing aids losing ability to hear well. My ears popped and air literally came out my ear. I ask my Dr. would he think I was crazy if I said I actually felt air coming from my ear" he said no it happens. I have developed Asthma and am on symbicort and albuteral. So , yes it does happen. Does this help. I feel the virus or whatever left me with all these problems.

pressure equalization between the eustation tube and outer ear will cause popping sounds. This popping sound is created as the Eustachian tube opens to normalize the pressure. The sound of air rushing in the ears is pretty common when the ear drum is subjected to this pressure change. Really, not blowing smoke at you.

Sleeprider has it right, but reading your post brought an experience in my past to my mind. First I want to stress that water has the capability to do far more damage so don't get alarmed, I don't think CPAP pressure could do this, it's just not enough pressure, but anyway on with the story. I was water skiing and took a big spill landing flat against the water on my left side. Soon I developed a bad ear ache, and equally bad headache. Went home and felt a little deaf in that left ear like I had water in it that wouldn't drain, so I got some "Swim Ear" (basically alcohol) out of medicine cabinet, learned over the sink with head tilted to right side so I could drip the Swim Ear into my sore left ear, the idea being the alcohol would help evaporate the water that I thought was in my ear. I put a squeeze of the Swim Ear in the left ear and immediately felt a piercing pain, then I could taste the alcohol in my mouth.......oops......busted ear drum!

I've had this occasionally too and it's not caused me any problems at all.

I think sleeprider is correct, it's just a pressure adjustment. It's very common when travelling in an aeroplane too.

I'm not a doctor though, so my opinion is only from my own experience.

My left ear is clogged&poping too, no pain- no drain, no infection, just plugged. When I lean forward or my left side this sensation is gone. Doc. says, it is an Eustachian tube dysfunction but no gave me any treatment. I struggle with this situation for some time and i don't find the answer(how to fix this). I had the bad idea to use the machine when I was cold (stuffy nose, etc...) in this winter and then i got this...I don't know what to do.

Tangledhose. The piercing pain..You are not kidding . I also tried alcohol. As I told the dr. I held onto the sink and stamped my feet for a minute. Wow! won' t forget that soon..Dr. said that was used ( I will mix it with some of my distilled water if ever again ,maybe 1/2 to 1/2) I see an opthamologist. He inserted the tubes but said nothing about the ear drum. The tube should have come out itself by 2 months..has not ..so appt in March for the removal after 1 1/2 yrs. As we grow older we just have to expect a new adventure everyday and be ready to meet it head on. I still would like to see a survey. I think some extensive studies NEED to be done

Every time I look at this thread it looks like

I heard a poop then air movement in my ear...

...and the reply, of course, would be

"You're probably sleeping too low in the bed."
