Negative test after years on CPAP

Post by Guest » Mon Jan 12, 2015 10:19 pm

I have been on CPAP for several years and have had positive test results in 2 studies just in the last 3 years. I recently moved again and needed another study and It came back negative! Has anyone ever just been cured before? and if so from what? Now I can't get my supplies I need any advice on what I need to do? I was never overweight so weight loss was not the reason. It runs in my family almost all of us including 2 of my chlidren who were able to get surgery to correct (mine was not able to correct with surgery).

Is your new insurance an HMO?
Maybe the new doc missed a co-morbidity.
Maybe a few more details would help . . .

Have you lost a lot of weight? Stopped sleeping on your back? Cured your GERD? Something must have changed (unless the orig. test was flawed), because people don't usually get cured all by themselves.

Welcome.

Please sign up for an ID on this board and fill in the equipment on your profile. If we know what CPAP machine you have, we can tell you what data it can give you. Some machine can give you sort of a mini sleep test every night and you can read your own data.

I'd be interested in details of the last (negative) study. Maybe it was what my doctor calls "technically suboptimal" meaning it was lacking in some aspect making the results not definitive. For instance, sleeping supine while in REM is considered the likely worst case scenario, so any study that doesn't capture that may not be fully representative of your issues. I'm wondering why so many studies so soon - do you have other sleep issues they're looking at besides obstructive sleep apnea? One reason I ask that is sometimes returning for more studies is due to limb movements, and if one happens to have PLMD and their legs were active during a study, their results for the OSA may not be conclusive. Can you give us more information? I'll refrain from details unless there turns out to be a need.
