Mask slipping lower at night

Post by cwillis » Wed Jan 07, 2015 2:01 pm

Hello all. Another question from a newbie. Does the bottom seal of my Quattro end up riding on my chin or up a little in the crease between chin and lip. Is this even a descriptive enough question? By the morning time I have developed big air leaks and mask has slid lower on chin, but at that point I can tighten and somewhat relieve leaks.

I had the similar problem with the Quattro mask it would slide up my face during the night, and the bottom of it would be on my lower lip, and I gave up using it. Since I started using liners for the masks I tried the mask again for a week and I had no problems with the leaks or it sliding.

I wish you well...

Thanks Bill I ordered some a couple days ago. I'll try'n make my own tonight. My numbers were way better after wearing FFM wish my sleep tech hadn't told me I wasn't a mouth breather.

CW, you're not necessarily a "mouth breather" you could be a "throat leaker" (my term). In people with obstructive sleep apnea, pressure is applied to the nose to pressurize and stent the airway open to clear and prevent obstruction. In some people, the seal at the back of the oral cavity is imperfect which allows the pressure to escape through the mouth such that the obstruction is not cleared. For these people, a full face mask equalizes the pressure at the nose and mouth so the pressure is not lost and the obstruction can be overcome. These people may not ordinarily be mouth breathers or become mouth breathers with a FFM. The mask just insures the pressure is maintained to clear the obstruction. See the graphic
