OMG I think I'm more nervous now that someone mentioned Joan Rivers. I pray everything will be OK

Hubby insisted on marking up my left arm before my revision surgery, ("NO", "NO B.P.")
as the previous removal of my left sentinel node puts me at a slight risk for lymphedema.
They put the warning bands on my wrist anyway. Can't be too careful.
Thinking it out, though, Joan Rivers case is more likely to make it safer for the rest of us, though.

yeah, it never hurts to leave directions to the surgeon "Don't cut this one off!' etc.

I'm having a colonoscopy and endocsopy with general on Friday. I'm way more worried about the prep than the procedure.

On the other hand, someone here in another thread posted an article on the risks of anesthesia in people with sleep apnea, and it was clear that there were definitely greater risks and special preparation the anesthesiologist should do. For one reason because people with OSA are likely to have a difficult airway to intubate if necessary. I don't remember the rest of it, but maybe someone will repost it here.

Again I'm not too worried, but I am glad I'm having it done in a hospital with an anesthesiologist present. I would be leery of having it done in a doctors office.

Most of the in and out surgical procedures done today are done with meds that do not put you all the way out but are conscious sedation, like versed. You are actually able to converse with the doc during the colonoscopy and can communicate any trouble breathing; you just will not remember the procedure. The anesthesiologist can also "bring you up" in a hurry.

My PA daughter says that some people would be really embarrassed if they knew what they were actually telling people during the procedure. THERE- now you have something else to worry about

When I was being prepped for my second cataract surgery they could not get my right eye numb. The anesthesiologist assured me that she would give me enough versed that I wouldn't remember if I felt any pain. I asked my daughter later if that might actually be true, and she said yes. I remember nothing after that conversation with the doc, but they said that later when I asked, I handled the procedure well despite the discomfort I was feeling and the light that bugged me a bit.

I remember nothing of my colonoscopy, but the doctor told my husband that I never stopped talking.

That's one reason I'm a little later than I should getting a colonoscopy--the fear I'll lay there saying stupid things and embarrass myself. I've always had a fear of being in an altered state of consciousness where I'd make a fool of myself. It's one of the things that kept me from ever wanting to get drunk or high on anything.

If you are curious, you can leave your phone on "record".
What you say may be of no consequence at all.
Preventing cancer or catching it early ENOUGH totally beats a red face.
Think Farrah Fawcett--what a waste of such an awesome rear!

Actually, in the USA, well over 50% of GI endoscopic exams are done with profafol, and that is a deeper sedation than Versed. It is also very short acting, wearing off in mere minutes. And the other great thing about propafol is that when it wears off, you feel like nothing happened... no grogginess, no nothing. I have been using it exclusively since 2010, but in my state (MA), it is always administered by an anesthesia professional, either an MD or CRNA.

Versed (midazolam) is amazing. First time I was given it, it thought the procedure was about 15 mins long (angiogram/angioplasty), it really lasted almost hour and 40 mins.

I was a nervous wreak when I went into the lab which is weird because it was my fourth procedure in several years. They used it every time since.

I am pretty pretty sure it is not the only anesthetic used but the goal is to keep you awake and communicative. In a couple minutes you don't remember what just happened.

I'm all done. The worst part was I had diarrhea all night and up until 5 minutes before the procedure. My butt was raw!!!!!. Anesthesiologist put me out and had oxygen on me with a heart monitor and I was out and woke up 20 minutes later I guess. Found one polyp so hopefully it is not cancerous and I'll be good for 5 years. I cant tell you how relived I am that this is over. I cant thank all of you enough for all your support. You guys are the best!!!!
