heart racing at night

Post by pikapika » Sat Jan 03, 2015 10:26 am

Hi, I often wake up at night feeling my heart is beating fast. As shown in the folloing picture, the pulse rate suddenly raises more then 20 bpm. I had about 6 to 10 events like this per night. The puls change event is not always correlated to a SpO2 drop event or an OSA event. Does anybody here has similar experience? Thank you very much for sharing your experience and knowledge.

That sounds like tachycardia (the fancy word for what you described), but you need to tell your doctor - we're just a bunch of Cpap patients.

Please fill out your profile with your specific equipment and settings so we'll know a little more about your situation. As it stands, we don't have a friggin' clue what to suggest. And, that report you linked to doesn't tell us anything either. Nothing in there to compare or relate it to.

There are some really dangerous health conditions related to someone's heart suddenly speeding up. If your doctor isn't already dealing with this, you need to call and make an appointment asap. This is NOT one of those "mention it the next time you see the doc for something else" sort of things.

I'm curious as to what caused the "break" in the chart data shortly before the elevated pulse rate. That part looks weird.
Dreaming?......phone ringing?

The break is just the way how SleepyHead draw the chart. Because the pulse rate raise so quick that it doesn't make sense to smooth ( connect ) the line.

Get to a cardiologist soon. Dont mess around with heart symptoms. You might even save your life.

Don't fool around. See a cardiologist. Sleep apnea can cause permanent arrythmias like a-fib or sinus tachycardia or worse. My sleep apnea was untreated for twenty years and I got tachycardia at night and sometimes during the day. I now take a medication to control this. Untreated, tachycardia can cause stroke, heart failure or worse.

Checking in on some of the causes of heart arrhythmia's...

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-cond ... n-20027707

it appears that the cause may be life itself. Stress, anxiety, alcohol, coffee, diet, herbs, supplements, all can contribute so that would be a good place to take a look.

By all means see a cardiologist and be sure to bring a list of what is going on in your life for the visit.

In the meantime... try eating a spinach salad a day. A frequent cause of heart electrical issues is an imbalance in minerals. Spinach is high in magnesium and may help.
