anyone here make their own hose cover
anyone here make their own hose cover
It's actually cold here at night in San Diego. brrrrrr and I'm getting rainout. I had to take my mask off early
because it was leaking all over my pillow!
I can buy one, but wonder how easy it would be to make one, like a pullover maybe? I also
need to look at my settings to see if they are too high.
thanks

Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
I've thought about making my own, but you can get one on e-bay for about %6, so I won't plug in my sewing machine for that.

yeah, setting up the machine is a bit tedious, especially with all my artwork about, but just a thought for now.

Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
It is basically a tube. I made mine from left over polar fleece in pink camoe.
You could go to the dollar store and buy some tube socks and cut the toes off and safety pin them together or buy a fleece scarf, a needle and thread and hand sew it length wise while watching tv.

Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
okey dokey, I'll be out shopping for fleece today. Thank you
Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
The covers are very easy to make.
Choose fabric. Fleece is the best.
1. Simply measure the length of hose and circumfrence (around the hose) of the largest part of the hose adapter. Measure hose adapter to insure the fabric will slip on hose.
2. Add seam allowance to both + about 2" more to lenght (for folding in hem) and about 1/2" more to diameter. Cut these measurements out of fabric.
3. Fold fabric together lenght wise and face side together and sew (using your chosen seam allowance) leaving ends open. Leave about 2" of seam unsewn at each end if using velcro.
4. Use elastic or velcro to secure both ends of fabric to hose. If using velco, leave slits on seam for fabric to cross over and attach to other piece of fabric for a snug fit. If using elastic, sew a seam hem wide enough to accomidate the elastic. Before sewing elastic closed, stretch it to make sure it will fit snuggly on hose.
5. Turn right side out and put on hose.
6. Enjoy!
Much simpler than it sounds. Really! Wish I had pictures.

Remnants are addictive. Some I bought with no idea what they could become.
I just found a piece in my stash that will make a perfect infinity scarf!
It is at least 4 years old. Now I have to repack the box.

Yes, remnants are addictive. I machine embroidery and they are great for applique as well as hose covers.

Here's one for $14 from CPAPtalk's host... so it hardly seems worth the effort unless you have a lot of time on your hands and some fleece sitting around. If DIY stuff is fun for you then go for it:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
I am a crafter and did make a cover today, but I might like to get one that has a zipper in it to make
it easier to get on and off (since the hose needs to be cleaned once a week?)
thanks for the help.

Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
Why would you want to clean the hose? Nothing goes through it but clean distilled mist from your humidifier.RuthArt wrote:I am a crafter and did make a cover today, but I might like to get one that has a zipper in it to make

Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
just going by what I read and was told - to clean it once a week. Since exhaled breath goes into it? IDK
Also, the cover did not take care of the rainout....bummer. I actually had water go up my nose, that scared me!
The machine is below my sleeping position so it should drain properly. I have to read more
about the settings. Since I don't have the Heated Tube, then not sure what settings
I can modify on the humidifier.

very little... I think most of the "wash the hose" thing is lawyer cya, paranoia, and/or "the more they attach and detach it and wash it out, the sooner it'll break and have to be replaced"ness.RuthArt wrote:just going by what I read and was told - to clean it once a week. Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
Ruth, a heated hose goes a long way to avoiding any condensation as it keeps the air warm until it is delivered to the mask. I just got a heated hose upgrade kit for the PR System One yesterday. It was 15% off ($63 total) from CPAP.com using discount code "GIFT". https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-hea ... e-kit.htmlRuthArt wrote:just going by what I read and was told - to clean it once a week. I have been using the Aussie heated hose since 2008 (AKA Sleepzone). They had heated hoses long before Respironics or Resmed jumped on the bandwagon. It's a great product, and given me nearly 7 years of service now. It's a bit more expensive, however it comes with a fleece cover. http://www.sleepzone.com.au/8997/SleepZ ... ed_States/ Hope this helps....oh yeah and as Palerider said, the systems are designed not to allow rebreathing of exhaled air, so it doesn't go into the tube. My 7 year old tube is just fine, and has rarely been cleaned.
Oh and "it's cold here in San Diego"

Re: anyone here make their own hose cover
One trick I heard here is to get the machine close to the bed and then pull the hose up next to you underneath the covers. That way you have body heat to go along with the insulation. I bet an electric blanket would make it even toastier!RuthArt wrote:Also, the cover did not take care of the rainout....bummer. I actually had water go up my nose, that scared me!
