Very many people go off antidepressants after starting Cpap because they (and their doctors) realize that they're not so 'depressed' as just half dead and miserable because of it. You may want to consider (with your MD) whether you should start them at the same time as Cpap because they will affect therapy.

And children won't be overprescribed ADHD meds if their SDBs were taken care of first.

Great posts Julie and Tan. I wish to god I heard of sleep breathing disorders and looked into the possibility of getting diagnosed before I wasted 15 years of my life on psych meds. Of course, pap therapy wasn't as advanced at that time so I don't know if it would have made a difference. But at least having the right diagnosis would have avoided the horrific side effects that I experienced from the meds and the life destroying impact that they made.

Wow, I had no idea you'd been through that (tho' I suppose if I go through your old posts there'd be an indication). Sometimes I have to remind myself that for all their education, doctors are only human, and maybe when they're tired look at things in the same knee-jerk way the rest of us do, not mentally reaching the next level of speculation of other causes for problems!

Thanks Julie, I have mentioned it off and on but really, with so many posters' various histories to keep track of, it wouldn't be fair for me to expect you to remember that. The fact that you are responding with empathy is what is important.

Thank you.
