Heated Climateline Air hose hole after 11 days of use.

Post by sonny45boy » Sun Dec 28, 2014 1:45 pm

Hi,

I am new to Cpap treatment.

I have Resmed airsense 10 for Her with a heated climateline Air hose.

After the first 10 days of use I developed a severe sinusitis bronchitis and was put on a 10 day course of Bactrim.
Friday I installed Sleepyhead.
Yesterday I read the data: The simple summary reads:

The last time you used your ResMed AutoSet FH...
was 18 days ago (on Wednesday, December 10, 2014)
You had an AHI of 0.64, which is considered pretty darn good
You machine was on for 6 hours, 16 minutes and 2 seconds.
You had significant periods of major mask leakage.
Your pressure was under 9cmH2O for 95% of the time.

Last night I restarted treatment. I sensed something was not working. I checked for air leaks around the pillows and then checked the hose. I discovered a hole in the hose where it attaches to the connector.
I have two questions:
1. Does sleepyhead recognize the difference between a major mask leak and a hole in the hose?
2. I am in the capped medicare system which means the DME's are extremely tight with replacement items.
Seems like this issue should fall under a warranty????
I'm not sure how to proceed at the moment.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you

A leak is a leak when it is downstream from the machine. It doesn't matter where the leak is. A hose leak (to the machine) is the same as a mask leak.

Contact your supplier and explain that your hose failed. Ask for a replacement for the failed one and a back up in the event there is a bad batch of hoses.

That's got to be a manufacturing defect... those hoses should last six months to a year, no problem. Send it back for replacement. Hope you have a spare hose around... even a non-heated hose is better than nothing, IMO.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Thank you.

I will call the DME first thing in the morning.

I've had bad luck with DME's under the Capped Medicare System. The system wipes out the DME suppliers and leaves a very few left in the business.

DME #1 refused to provide me any back up filter for 30 days and proof of Medicare compliance even though Medicare allows 2/month, and also refused to provide me with hypoallergenic filters ever even after I explained my problems with sinusitis and provided the Medicare billing code for the filters. The filters were cheap so I purchased my own but then decided to drop the DME because I felt if they could not work with me over a simple problem they certainly would not help me with an expensive problem.

The second DME refused to supply me with anything but a refurbished machine.

The current and third DME refused to supply me with a back up nasal pillow for 30 days and until I proved compliance per Medicare standards. I'm running out of time to show compliance per Medicare standards even though I did so well the first 10 days because my 30 day interval to prove compliance restarted yesterday and I already have a new equipment problem.

I'm new to treatment and I do not have backup supplies outside of the filters that I purchased a few weeks ago but I will remedy this tomorrow by ordering my own online. It is discouraging though because I pay for Original Medicare and in addition pay for a supplement plan so should have no expenses for Medicare reimbursable items whatsoever.

Thank you for your help

While you wait to get this resolved, you should acquaint yourself with the virtues of duct tape. You can repair that leak until you have a replacement in hand.
