Mask Variety
Re: Mask Variety
I want every new thing and think I am missing something. I am THIS close to ordering the airfit P10 even though pillows have never worked for me.

At least shoes are fun but masks, not so much.chunkyfrog wrote:Funny, I never had much of a shoe addiction, but masks--that's another story.

You got me to thinkin'.......Julie wrote:I guess I had in mind things people wore 5-10+ yrs ago, not just... 3 yrs ago, but if everyone likes the pillows (which I've never tried) then I guess it's the way to go.
The following is from the equipment/price list of CPAP.COM from April of 2005, which I decided to save for posterity (among others). I thought I'd post it (without prices so you wouldn't get even more depressed) so you could compare what was available almost 10 years ago with now (I'll let you do the "now" research yourself). Enjoy a bit of history!
I was also under the impression that nasal pillows would only work "well" for folks who had rounded nares.....and wouldn't work very well with slotted nares. But, I've never tried them or any other nasal mask.

Re: Mask Variety
Exactly! I remember trying a bunch of those (even the Snapp) and quickly getting rid of them as they weren't any good, but I felt newbies were being cheated by not appreciating what's out there (or what was) besides pillows, but apparently no one cares to go back that far (or maybe the happy ones just aren't complaining here) but it's great that you let them know!

Re: Mask Variety
Just browsing that list, it seems to me that there are now (at least) more full face masks available......and probably more and different variety of nasal pillows. You don't hear much talk anymore about "prongs". Some of those masks on that list are definitely discontinued or "history". Overall, I don't know. I'm thinking there's now more variety, which is a good thing.
I don't have the ambition at the moment to look up what's now available on CPAP.COM. And, it's in a different format which would be more work to prepare a list.

Re: Mask Variety
My ex DME wanted me to pay ahead for a cushion for my old softgel because they didn't want to be stuck with it. My newer DME acted like the softgel was a dinasaur and talked me into an Eson. I realized later that he didn't want to order in older masks or parts either. I think they want to narrow down the inventory and new stuff sells faster.
