New to the Forum. Thanks!

Post by 7michael3 » Sat Dec 13, 2014 4:01 am

Hey folks. I'm new here and I just wanted to make my formal introduction. I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea about 3 weeks ago via Home Study. I was told that I stopped breathing around 78 times per hour. I received my CPAP 2 days ago and for the first night I wore it about an hour. I was having issues with trying to breath out. Breathing in wasn't so much a problem I usually fall asleep in the living room in the recliner before I go to bed where my wife and daughter usually are. So I decided yesterday to set it up by my recliner and where it while I'm watching TV to get a little distraction from my breathing and just let me lungs do the work. Well I slept for about 2 hours on it and I don't think it was really that bad. Tonight I plan to try my first full night with it. I appreciate any feedback and support as well as tips. I'm new into this thing and really want to be a success story. Thanks for the forum and the support. I look forward to getting to know all of you and maybe being able to help you guys with encouragement and insight someday!

Michael: please post the equipment you are using in your profile. It will help others who want to help you. Cpap therapy is a journey. Some struggle with it and some take to it like a duck to water. Finding a comfortable mask that doesn't leak is very important. Welcome to the forum and work all your issues here.

Welcome to the forum.

There is a feature on your machine that will help with any exhale issues you might have...it's called EPR and it reduces the pressure upon exhale 1 cm per setting with a setting of 3 being a 3 cm reduction.....so if you aren't using EPR you might try using it.
Did you know about EPR? Now it won't kick in if the starting pressure is 4 cm...so if you are using the ramp it will start at 4 and you won't get the benefits of EPR.

Also...what is the model name of your new AirSense machine. Does it just say CPAP or does it say Elite or AutoSet?
The reason I ask is that the plain "CPAP" model doesn't offer much data to help you out if you have problems with your therapy.

Don't hold back, chunky...you might explode someday if you don't let your feelings out.
