Double header Kaiser & Crapria

Post by bwexler » Thu Dec 11, 2014 11:09 pm

My brother in law has Kaiser Insurance and needs to place his first order for replacement mask and supplies.
I offered to help him on a 3 way call to Crapria.
In preparation can those of you with Kaiser insurance tell me what their cut off is before a copay kicks in.
My current plan pays 100% up to $499, if $500 or more I have 20% of the total for each item. Next year new plan is 100% up to $99 and 20% of total for each item over$100.
I am accustomed to dealing with Crapria but can use a heads up on what to expect from Kaiser on the copay.

I know that Crapria should never get any credit card info from anyone.

Call Kaiser's Member Services department and ask about your bro-in-law's coverage specifically (you'll need his Kaiser member number). Kaiser is like other health plans in that there are any number of different plans within Kaiser, each with different terms of coverage. I was self-employed and had an individual plan with Kaiser that did not cover any DME at all. A friend of mine, on the other hand, had Kaiser through the university's group employee plan and Kaiser paid for everything -- machine, supplies, etc. No limit, no cutoff amount. And she never even has to deal with Crapria directly, she just contacts her Kaiser person for supply refills and they handle it -- are you sure you even have to talk to Crapria?

My experience was fairly painless. I knew what mask I wanted so when I picked up my cpap machine at Kaiser I told them which one and they placed an order for it from their office for Apria to fill. Apria mailed me the mask shortly after. I had set up online billing with Apria to pay my 20% co-pay so later when I needed to order my supplies they just asked if I wanted to pay by credit card over the phone or have it billed. I chose to have it billed and that was all there was to it. When you call the Kaiser DME supply number, you are actually speaking to Apria reps who only serve Kaiser patients so I get the feeling they are a small group. Both people I've spoken with have been very helpful and accommodating.

Here's hoping your brother in law's dealings will be similar.

As Kaiasgram pointed out, Kaiser had many different policies, so you'll need to know specifically what his plan covers. They probably will not tell you a thing because of HIPAA laws--he'll need to call himself.

Crapria varies by region. My region they are always requiring a credit card to process the order. You can't pick it up anywhere, it must be mailed to you. Even the very first time when I insisted in going to the local storefront to pay my co-pay by check before getting the machine, they would only deliver it by drop shipment, they would not give me one from their inventory.

In my region, they follow the Medicare replacement guidelines, even if you are not on Kaiser's Senior Advantage program. I don't know if this holds true for other regions.

I have Kaiser in Colorado. My experience was painless.. I went to the sleep lab, and left with my equipment. IDK if CRApria will send a bill.. or how I pay them. They left a voicemail that was so quiet I couldn't hear it... and they were kinda clueless when I returned the call. Not sure where he is, but if that's an option beats CRApria screwing up your order.

Even the Tech I had that fit me for my new mask didn't like CRApria. He stated I wanted to be very specific in what I order.. or they will grab the nearest thing to them and ship it out. Hope you get him figured out. So far my experience with Kaiser has been pretty pleasant surprisingly

Well I did a 3 way call with Crapria. They asked to confirm the shipping address and my BIL disconnected himself when he went to find something with his address, so he could tell them. They were pleasant but indicated a 20% copay from the first dime. When I questioned that they transferred me to Kaiser DME department who confirmed and offered to place the order but said there was never a prescription for the mask and they could not order the mask without a prescription indicating which mask was authorized.
Everyone was cooperating since BIL was on the phone the first few minutes.
I emailed the doctor and he said he would provide the prescription.
Monday I will start fresh and all should go smooth.
