where can I sell a cpap?

Post by rohonda » Wed Dec 10, 2014 8:11 pm

I have 2 cpaps from a family member who has passed. I tried to post them on ebay and they were promptly removed. I found this forum on Google and figured I would give it a shot. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi - you can try Craig's list (eBay won't do it because people 'need' a prescription, but Craig's list doesn't care). You can also try here, but it's really important to have ALL the full name and model #'s (and anything else you can read off the top and bottom of the machines - and don't mistake numbers on the humidifier for numbers on the machine itself). Also, if you know how to find how many hrs of use they've had it would help, but at least a timeline in terms of years, months, etc. would be most useful.

If you have masks, again the most complete name and type e.g. nasal vs 'full face' (that covers mouth as well) plus Size would help.

Ok, I read some other posts on here of people selling cpaps. What other info is important. It seems like it doesn't take much to get ripped apart on here.

Some people go about it the wrong way. This is a pretty knowledgeable and savvy crowd, so when people have an "attitude" or try to sell a piece of worn out junk for high prices, it's pretty apparent in short order.
If you're sincere, we'll try to help you.
See what you can come up with regarding Julie's instructions and we can go from there.

First, sorry for your family loss. No one is going to rip on you for trying to sell machines used by your dearly departed. Buyers need to know the manufacturer, model and whether the equipment has a humidifier or other important features. Ideally, turn the machine on and cycle through the readouts to determine the number of blower hours. Accurately describe the condition of the equipment to the best of your ability.

If you can look up the same machine on CPAP.com and use that information, it will make your listing easier and more accurate. Set a realistic price for used equipment, and indicate use the Forum messaging system for communication. Check back and reply to any questions. Most of us understand, you may have a limited knowledge of this equipment, so if you don't know an answer, it's likely someone here will.

Thank you. I'm going to do some research and make a post when I have my ducks in a row. Thanks again for the advice.

Another thing to remember, many machines are rented, not owned by the patient. If such a machine is sold, payment would be due. Smart idea check first. Medicare will tell you the truth--a DME, not so much.

I have a link in my signature box to some very brief video tutorials for the most common machines. They show you how to find the total RUN hours (which is different from the total hours of USE). Best thing for selling on this forum would be to take a picture of the machine display showing those RUN hours and upload the photo to a free site like Photobucket or imgur. There you'll get an image code that starts with [IMG] -- copy the code and paste it into your post here on the forum. It will just be text but when you click on Preview you should see your image. If you do, then we'll see it when you click on Submit.

Knowing how much 'mileage' the machines have on them is important to most prospective buyers and you'll really increase the likelihood of a quick and fair sale by posting those Run hours.
