CPAP.com and BCBSOK

Post by MJS186 » Wed Dec 10, 2014 3:13 pm

Has anyone bought equipment from CPAP.com and filed for reimbursement through BCBS? I have a private purchase PPO plan that covers medical equipment to some degree, but I would like to hear other people's experiences with BCBS. Thanks.

Regards,
Mark

Call your insurance and ask them if there is any coverage with out-of-network.
Cpap.com is out-of-network for all insurance--that I know of.
If covered, out-of-network will be subject to much higher deductibles and copays.
With BCBSNE mine were double.
When I was buying all my supples from cpap.com, BCBSNE sent a "concerned" letter,
apparently their pet DME missed my money.

Yep. You're going to need to ask them.
Nine and a half years ago, my insurance provider (self-insured PPO plan) reimbursed me for 80% of my initial DME purchase from CPAP.COM......but, I approached them about that option ahead of time and after they said they would, I created an invoice using the one I got from CPAP.COM (which had all the insurance codes on it) and made out the invoice with me as the billing party and my insurance provider being the party being billed.

Others around that time did the same thing (successfully) and I remember that some of them had BCBS as a provider. In more recent times, I seem to recall reading that some of the insurance providers (including BCBS) have not been so willing to do it.

In any case, when I "did the math" years ago, I figured out that there wasn't that much difference dollar-wise between going through the insurance and all the copays and other stuff......and buying the whole setup outright. But, in the end, we both came out ahead on the deal. Unfortunately, not that many people look into that option or know how to approach their insurance providers with the right questions and proposals......so, they suffer through going through some local DME who screws up so many things and gives them lousy service.

Out of network, 0% cover with BCBSTX and cpap.com is in Houston. But if you're buying for out of pocket cash they are the best, especially with mask insurance as you figure out your best mask...

My experience last month with BCBSNE was pitiful. And I just wanted to know who were some in-network companies in Omaha (no internet suppliers were recognized, period). I called the national number (on the back of my card), and was told that information is only available through the state office, and was given a phone number. I called the state office, and after 20 minutes of attempting to discuss it, was transferred to the national number office. Another 30 minutes of discussion, and was finally told, get this, that no one knows who our local DMEs are, and there is no list. If I can come up with a name, they will let me know if that one is in-network. And no, no internet or mail order suppliers are in network. In a few cases, we have more than one storefront for a DME supplier. And I have to check with the store to find out which one actually has any supplies.

Cpap.com is a blessing, and often is less expensive than my 30% co-pay with insurance. And a lot less hassle.

Hey there, fellow Husker! Just click on the link in my signature, and enter your zip code.
This will give you Medicare providers, but you can call each one to determine if they are also BCBSNE providers.
My highest copay was only 20%, but cpap.com was more economical unless I got a machine the same year.

MJS,

My BCBS of FL does not cover my orders from CPAP.com. This has not stopped me from utilizing that particular website to order supplies out of pocket as needed.

My BCBS insurance as been very good to me in other regards and I do not have one bad thing to say about them.

Good luck,
