it's a common misconception that machines increase pressure due to leaks, but that's actually incorrect. they will increase flow to compensate for the pressure lost due to the leak.

machines will sometimes reduce pressure due to leaks, in hopes of getting the mask to seal. they never (at least not any reasonably modern ones) increase pressure due to leaks.

if you put your ear to the side of the machine, you can hear the blower speeding up and slowing down in response to changing conditions (inhale, exhale, leak) to maintain the pressure.

what does often happen is that as pressure goes up, the extra pressure causes more leaks.... but unless you examine it closely, it can look like 'oh, there's a leak and pressure went up!" .... except, that's backwards, ..
