Nuance Pro - boiling pillows

Post by codinqueen » Thu Dec 04, 2014 8:08 pm

Two of my Nuance nasal pillows have sprung whistling leaks in the past 2 wks, and I am wondering if anybody has had any success fixing the leaks by soaking the pillows in boiling water once the heat is turned off? New nasal pillows for this mask are about $38 + S/H and I can't afford to buy them. I can use Swift Fx or Swift LX mask too, so I do have a mask I can use, but I find the Nuance Pro more comfortable than the Swifts. Anybody know? Thanks.

Are they all silicone? I'm not familiar with this mask.. I have boiled cushions for the quattro fx and the mirage quattro and they have turned out fine. If the pillows are nothing but silicone.. you should be fine.

The Nuance nasal pillows have that gel thing in them...I have no idea if the boiling trick would harm that gel part or not.
It they are trash anyway...I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it but I think I would just do one of them (the worst one) if I was going to experiment. I have done the boil and baking soda trick with the other nasal pillows but haven't done it with the Nuance...I would be concerned about the gel portion.

Yes, these are silicone I guess, with gel on the portion that touches the nostrils. I don't want to ruin one of my good stainless steel pans, maybe I will boil some water in the microwave in a glass 2 cups measuring cup, add some baking soda, drop in the nasal pillow, and see what happens to one of them. If the gel melts and makes a mess, it would be easier to replace the 2 C measuring glass cup than one of my good SS cooking pans. Thanks.

In another post about the Nuance mask, someone noted that care must be taken when cleaning this mask or you stand a good chance of waking up to an ooze running down your face from the gel leaking out. . . Of course I am not having any luck finding that post. Also, If anybody here is using a P10 and reading this. DON'T boil them, or even near a boil, the mounting plastic that the nasal pillows are attached to is a low melt plastic. You will have nasal pillows attached to a blob. . . please believe me!
