Hi,
I am just new to CPAP therapy and was looking at buying either the F&P Icon Auto or Resmed airsense 10
I like the ramping up pressure and humidification but both of these machines have these, which one would you reccomend?
F&P Icon Auto Vs Resmed airsense 10

Re: F&P Icon Auto Vs Resmed airsense 10
I own, and use both machines...........if you have just garden variety OSA and not a case of Complex Apnea then either one of these machines will work just fine. The ResMed machine is going to report more details if you download to software, but mainly the difference in reporting is of concern to patients that suffer complex apneas which would include concern over central apneas. If you suffer from the usual obstructive apneas, which most people do, then the additional Central Apnea reporting on the ResMed machines is of little value.
There are pros and cons to both machines, I like the Icon machine's humidification system better than the ResMed's, but both machines perform well. I think the Icon is a bit better for travel because the power converter is built into the machine, as opposed to the ResMed that has the power converter brick on the power cord, so overall the Icon is slightly smaller package for travel, but now that the humidifier is integrated into the Airsense, unlike the previous S9, that difference is not as much of an advantage as it used to be.
The price difference is HUGE, you could almost buy two Icons for the ridiculous price of one Airsense, I can't believe ResMed can ask such high prices for their equipment.
So bottom line, both machines operate, and work well for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, if you want to track your data more precisely, if you are concerned about Central Apnea reporting then go ahead and pay almost double the price for the Airsense. If the more robust data reporting is not a big concern, and you want a good quality machine for a lot less money then go with the Icon.
Also you should look into the Philips Reseronics Auto machine, PR System One 60 Series (I think), it is widely considered to be the equal of the ResMed machine, but with a lower price tag. Most people on this forum either use the ResMed Auto, or the Resperonics Auto, so if you need assistance from the experts on here, you'll be better off with one of these two units. Also be aware that if you want full data reporting stay with the "AutoSet" machine in the ResMed line - their least expensive machine in this line is not a full data reporting unit, I suspect that is the same for the Respironics line as well. You can check out all the feature details of the machines at cpap dot com. Just be sure you go with the full data machines in each brand if the data feature is important to you. I am sure someone that knows the Resperonics line better than I do will chime in and let you know more about them, it's a machine I have no personal experience with.

If you get the ResMed, be sure to get the AutoSet or Elite model. Don't the the plain "AirSense 10 CPAP" model.
I recommend the fully data capable ResMed and Philips Respironics PRS1 models. Check my signature line for links.
The biggest advantage of the ResMed and PRS1 machines is the availability of accessing the data.

Thanks for that informative information.
I think you are right about the cloud reporting as i don't really need that tech,
I am in New Zealand and they are both machines are the same price here but most things are more expensive down here due to shipping and a small population, but you get a free mask with the icon at the moment, so i think I'll go with the fisher and paykel.
Thanks again

For what it is worth: I'm a newbie, two months in with a F&P Icon Auto. I've been pleased with it, adjusted pretty quickly, been easy to learn, works well with SLeepyhead, etc. My apnea is somewhere between minor to moderate, so I don't need some of the more complex features. I'm still on the learning curve though of report interpretations, etc. I'm pleased so far, but of course don't have other experiences to compare/contrast.
