Affordable pulse oximeter?

Post by Inspectorgene » Thu Dec 04, 2014 8:36 am

Just throwing this out there.

I was diagnosed with mild to moderate OSA just over a month ago and have been on CPAP since.

I "used" to do quite a bit of camping in a hammock [remote areas] with no electricity.

I am trying to figure out the best way to keep doing this sans a CPAP machine.

I was considering setting up in the back yard and trying different sleep positions/breathright strips/chin straps etc. and wanted to,
at least monitor oxygen levels through the night to see if anything worked at all-or at least if one method was better than another.

Anyone know of an "affordable" device to measure and record oxy levels? Bad idea? Other ideas?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

The 50D Plus (the + is important) is really all you need, and is quite inexpensive.

Very affordable.

Thanks Julie, that might just be the ticket.

Same model and a bit less costly can be found on Amazon or Ebay but sometimes has to come from international shippers. EBay seems to have sellers in Hong Kong for the CMS 50 D Plus for a little less than $50 but it will take a little longer to get here.
Just make sure you know which model is the correct model...the "Plus" is very important because there is a CMS 50 D without the Plus available but it doesn't record overnight.

I bought mine from the pulseoxstore link that Julie posted. It wasn't that much more expensive and I knew that Kevin at the pulseoxstore site would be available to help with any software issues I might have with the regular software that comes with that model. It was worth it to me to pay a little more but it may not be that important to you. As it worked out I didn't have any issues with the pulse ox software.

I got the 50 i from Kevin at the pulse ox store. I am glad I paid for his services.
The included software didn't work with the 50i. He sent me the updated software that did. Recently the record button stopped working. I sent the watch back to Kevin, he sent it back to China. I am expecting it back next week.

You might also try a boil and bite Snore stoper, availabe on ebay for less than $3.00 .
When you heat it up set it with your lower jaw forward in a comfortable position.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

You can gat batteries for many CPAP machines. Or use generic batteries and an inverter.
